Labeling the things Jim Carrey has to say as "ignorant gibberish" doesn't actually diminish any of the meaning of what is trying to communicate. Implying that he is trying to manipulate people or has ulterior motives without backing it up is slander. Would you listen to him then?

If not, why is Jim Carrey different from any asshole you might meet on the street, other than the fact that he's rich and famous?

Actors know that, of course, and I respect the ones who don't play it up out of a basic sense of dignity. Like so many actors, I respect Jim Carrey as an entertainer, but I'd be a fool to respect what he says because he knows he has a voice on things that he hasn't earned, yet he's exploiting that.

^ Kind of agree. He realizes that he has a stage to preach, but it's up to us whether we listen or not. I think if you're the type of person who'd listen to Jim Carrey, but wouldn't listen to some random guy on the street, then you're a dickhead.

I used to actually stop and talk to those weirdos on the street, by the way. They may be unconventional, but they're interesting. I don't do it anymore, somewhat because they never let me leave the conversation - that, and I've become a bit more selfish. It doesn't mean I wouldn't click on a youtube video to listen to Jim Carrey though.

But you know what? I still wouldn't anyway. Because I know what you mean - there's a difference between listening and actually acknowledging his information as fact just because he's famous. The cream always rises to the top. There's a reason why people listen to Carrey. You will find wisdom in all of the people who lie on the top of the kingdom. And I'm not referring to the socioeconomic kingdom but the metaphysical kingdom where there is equal opportunity for all.

Dionysus and JFLC may have been right when said that about "us", but it doesn't make you right. You treat the ate fan club as if we hang on to his every word as absolute truth. Its not. Its relative truth, and its truthfulness is relative to how you interpret it. So, looking at ate's post from multiple perspectives is a great way to gain something from it. Guess what, ate looks up to me as I look up to him. He's part of the Ethan fan club. We tend to be on equal ground, and that is the basis of respect.

I've unstickied this, since I don't think it's really sticky-quality material. I feel like only threads which contain a lot of information of general application to the forum's subject matter, and which will thus remain useful to newcomers and/or as a reference indefinitely, should be given that honor.
