Nope. Windwaker was the best newschool Zelda game. Faggots just won't recognize because OoT took their gay virginity when they were little N64 babies.

2D Zelda is just better than 3D Zelda and always has been and probably always will be. Windwaker is cool too for the awesome art style. Man, I remember playing through that first dungeon and towards the end, coming outside and being on a ledge hundreds of feet in the air above the ocean. If the overworld was a little more detailed it would have been perfect.

This pretty much. Link's Awakening was the epitome of Zelda for me. That game owned so much face.

That was the first Game Boy game I ever played, then I lost it when I was 6 or 7.

Found it again when I was like 15 and finally got to beat it; the 9 year wait was fucking worth it.

How was Twilight Princess?

Twilight Princess was great. Anyone who bitches about it is retarded. Seriously, it was a fucking sweet game. There's NO reason it should get the hate that it does.

Twilight Princess had the best dungeons in the series but its art wasn't as good as Wind Waker and its overworld was devoid of life, ugly, and boring.

The best dungeons? I don't know about that. I think Wind Waker had more memorable dungeons. The beginning of Twilight Princess, especially the wolf sequences, was also terribly boring. It got better after all those bugs were collected but I don't think a game should force someone to suffer for hours just to get to a point where you can have the opportunity to have fun. On the other hand it did have some nice additions to the controls. You might think that being able to swing your sword while running or on horseback is insignificant but it really does make a difference for someone with not a lot of patience.

That also reminds me of another complaint of Twilight Princess. Whose bright idea was it to make you wait till the end of the game to receive the horse whistle. Was it to encourage the player to use the wolf transformation? The result of that was that I never used the horse except the few times when the game required it. What a waste.

You've got to be kidding me. Wind Waker had like four dungeons and they were all piss easy. Twlight Princess' weren't super hard or anything, but they were certainly a step above "story time with toddler Link" level.

It's true that Twilight Princess' opening few hours are hand holdy and boring, but that doesn't change the fact that its dungeons rocked pretty hard.

Are any of the Zelda games actually hard? Adventure of Link is the only one I played that I had trouble with but not only is it radically different from all other Zelda titles; it sucked and I didn't play very much of it. But all the normal Zeldas whether 3D or 2D have never been difficult all the way back from the NES days. Maybe the CD-i games are, I don't know. As you said in your own post, I don't think Twilight Princess was any more difficult than Wind Waker so it is not clear to me why you are faulting Wind Waker for being easy. Maybe it would have been more fun if the enemies had posed more of a threat (perhaps all the Zeldas would be), but it made up for it with diverse and beautiful dungeons that were a joy to explore. I don't think Zelda has ever been about challenging combat. If that is so, it is a failure as a series.

Also you said there are only four dungeons but in fact Wind Waker had seven.

Dragon Roost Cavern
Forbidden Woods
Tower of the Gods
Forsaken Fortress
Earth Temple
Wind Temple
Ganon's Tower

Although I also wish there was more in the game, it was still a satisfying experience. I don't know how you feel about Skyward Sword but it supposedly has the same number of dungeons.

Hard Zelda games? How about the original? Adventure of Link? Link's Awakening? Come on, bro. And Skyward Sword is fucking amazing. No, really, I say this is PC Gamer, but this is really what we've been waiting for in gaming: something fresh and new that ISN'T a graphics-fest

The original Zelda is not really harder than the other Zelda's other than its lack of hand-holding and its somewhat frustrating controls. If you can beat A Link to the Past (not a difficult feat), then you can beat LoZ. I said I found Adventure of Link difficult but it is a totally different genre. Link's Awakening is the easiest 2D Zelda game I have played. Again, hard is not the same thing as fun.

You must be Rain Man or something if the original LOZ is easy.

I'm guessing that you've never played any other NES games if you think Zelda is hard.

I dunno about you fellers but the old 2D Zelda games, playing them as a kid I often got stuck in places and had a hard time advancing. Of course when I actually figured out how to get passed a certain puzzle, the feeling of reward was awesome. It's what made the games extremely enjoyable to me back then. I don't get that anymore. Perhaps because I'm not a little kid. Or perhaps the newer games are just much easier with more straightforward gameplay.

I've basically just walked through skyward sword so far. The dungeons are far too short and easy in my opinion. They have some clever puzzles but are a bit too obvious. Getting a 100% completion in some Zelda games is a bitch.

When you say 2D games, you're not really narrowing it down. If we're talking the original Zelda, then yeah that one was pretty tough because it didn't really hold your hand in any way at all. If we're talking Link's Awakening or A Link to the Past I would say they're a bit harder than say Ocarina of Time but not overly so, and certainly follow a similar formula to the 3D titles.

I would say the perceived decrease in difficulty and enjoyment mostly comes down to being both smarter and being extremely familiar with how the Zelda titles and other games work, as well as being a jaded old fuck like we're all sadly becoming.

Wind Waker would have to be a best. It had that epic feeling when sailing from one island to another.

Twilight Princess was great but having a one on one fight with ganon in the middle of a the hyrule fields was a let down. It should have been in the town sqaure with everyone watching.
