Default Modern Warfare 3 to have 5 DLC drops in 3 months, 20 total by September.

Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling confirmed with Joystiq the content schedule for Modern Warfare 3 and it's unsurprisingly extensive. Following the first multiplayer maps later this month ("Liberation" and "Piazza"), the plan is to offer five total DLC packages over the course of the next three months. Within the next nine months, up to September, there should be a total of 20 pieces of downloadable content available to players. A "Content Collection" in March will bundle the previously released DLC on Xbox Live for non-Elite users.

http://m.joystiq.com/2012/01/10/five...hree-months-2/

This is getting out of hand. How much are DLC packs usually for MW? With that much investment, would it be about the same amount as the game itself?

"Selling full games is no good"

Echoing recent comments by Codemasters, the CEO of Namco Bandai has also candidly stated that selling full games is old hat and that games should really be nothing but vehicles for DLC.

i never buy any dlc, for any game, ever. its ALL a fuckimg complete ripoff. to anyone who buys any dlc, justify it however you want; but its jus not worth it when it should be free or have come with the game on launch.

WTF I hope these aren't paid for, whatever happened to free bonuses and stuff? Like all the Unreal Tournament 2004/ UT3 stuff? If they are charging for it they're money-hungry whores, otherwise, OK, but is it *really* necessary to split it up and fragment it so much?

$68 for MW3

$50 1 year Xbox live gold subscription

$50 for Elite Primium

Total = $168

To play one game I don't think so

Only natural. Games are too risky and expensive to produce these days. That's why all you see is sequels of brands that sold well in the past.

were not talking about a normal game this is "call of duty"

Say what you want about it they are VERY few games that offer the amount of content call of duty games offer and when you ask friends how much time played its in DAYS not hours.

I am suprised no one bitches about games like portal 2 or batman games which are 5-7 hour singleplayer games for $60

Your paying $60 for literly days worth of entertainment.

That's why I never buy any new games. I'll either pirate them on PC or wait for the GotY edition to be on sale.

MW3 is a giant slap in the face to all gamers. Has the same game engine as mw2, but costs more to play. Soon they will prob just have a "pay for better weapons" dlc for fags who buy anything to be good at a game.

Heh, the first expansion for Battlefield 3 is out already and it adds maps, game types, weapons, and vehicles. It's already more content than a Call of Duty map pack usually provides, and I got it for free because I got the "Limited Edition."

So lol at Call of Duty. If I want to play COD I just load up Black Ops or COD4 mods, and it's pretty much the same fucking thing as MW3.

Bf3 man, it came with a VIP code for free DLC for a while.

This is really disgusting, a really bad trend for gamers (not for game companies).

Optimistically though, with software and hardware becoming increasingly sophisticated, it's not outside the realm of independent producers to make great games.

The problem with independents, since games start getting jazzy, has usually been they just couldn't jazz with the big-money game studios. They still can't, but it matters less now, because games can be far less sophisticated yet still good.

Let's give 5-10 years, and we might start seeing a silver lining emerging from what I think can fairly be called the abandonment of artistic merit and real fun (for a fair price) in video games. Fuck this commercial shit.

That's shit.

CoD offers very little in terms of content, it's just fucking addictive. I only got into it about 6 months back, and I broke my xbox in 1 week from playing it 8 hours a day straight and burning it out to red-ring. That doesn't give them the right to rip people the fuck off, and it's a bad strategy long-term 'cause it will piss people off.

The opposite is true. Back in 1994 everyone was making their own games. In 1999 it was relatively easy to make a game. Today, even the biggest companies can only make a corridor-fmv-corridor type game, because HD graphics are just so expensive to produce.

I think pre-1994 really, by '94 shit like Doom and C+C we're taking off and PC games were going mainstream.

But yeah, it was certainly much easier when everything was very simplistic. But that's just the thing, it's difficult for such a simplistic game to be considered decent these days.

Games need at least some level of depth and sophistication, and maybe even graphics. My idea is, that now shit is getting really advanced in maximum capabilities, it'l be increasingly easy for small developers to achieve that. An indie development is never going to be cutting edge, but does it need to be?

True; problem is, an indie developer would have to make a casual game that sells well, or remain in obscurity.

Graphics form the first impression, and they are a great and an easy selling point. A lot is getting sacrificed in the name of good graphics.

But hey, let's not dwell on the past. Quest games like Leisure Suit Larry, where you had to type what you wanted to do were once popular; when their time passed, a lot of people were probably upset about that - but in turn we got games like Metal Gear Solid, System Shock, Deus Ex etc.

Single player might be dead, but other good things await us in the future. Old games are not going anywhere, I replayed the original MGS a year ago and enjoyed it tremendously. So now we have that AND the cool newer stuff.

Subscription based games like MMORPGs are dying off and going to free2play model with perks costing extra, I think the CoDs of the world are catching on to that model, and will bleed everyone dry before they all smarten up. Took long enough for MMOers. 15 bucks here and there is nothing compared to per month. Theres suckers for every type of game.

I wish they would just go back to how they were 10 years ago when it was simple. You pay for the game and any patches or bonus packs were free, you pay a bit extra for a proper full on expansion pack (like the expansion for Diablo 2), or you just pirate the damn game. Also, while we're at it, fuck DRM.

This.

I bought other games, but played them only once or twice. CoD is the only franchise that I do play.

However, I don't really buy DLCs because I don't think they're needed. Especially now that I still haven't memorized MW3's maps.

To blame the pirates implies they've done something wrong.

The phenomena known as 'piracy' might be the reason for DRM, but 'pirates' aren't to blame. They've done nothing wrong, and a lot right.

Pray tell me how getting a free copy of a game without giving any due to the creators is doing nothing wrong. Piracy is wrong but we do it because the alternative is paying.

Because the publishers are rolling in cash, and continue to make massive profits.
The lower level employees might have decreased job security and possibly even wages, but that's thanks to the greedy system which hangs over us all.

There is nothing wrong with freely sharing information without having to line the pockets of some grossly over-paid thief.

Piracy is not only not wrong, it's a good thing in and of itself. Sharing without nasty self-interest. If you're indoctrinated into supporting the status quo and ideas of ownership, you'd disagree. But that matters little, we know you're wrong in your disagreement.

Making huge awesome AAA games takes cash, cash only giant developers can shell out, they invest in making decent games and people buying them in order to return on their investment and entice them to reinvest allowing for programmers ,writers. graphical artists and the like to innovate and create super kewl games.

Seriously justify it anyway you want but at the end of the day piracy is ripping someone off for their collective intellectual creation and removes the incentive to invest in the future. Information costs moneyz and games cost a wholeee lotta money. by getting it free we basically give a big fuck you to the producers and the producers give us moar shitty CoD sequals and boring as shit games in return

Yeah, we are saying fuck you to the overly-wealthy producers whose great wealth comes at the expense of society as whole. That's exactly what we should be doing.

Investors are not some knocked around victimised group here, they are the enemy. The whole economic status quo is the enemy. The same reason small producers and low level employees are getting such a raw deal (and therefore mistakenly supporting anti-piracy measures), is the same reason we shouldn't buy shit from the big publishers; because the people who run this shit are greedy fuckers, and we need to oppose that.

They should package a tube of lube with MW games to make the customer more comfortable when they get fucked in the ass.

I got 2 DLCs for MW2. When BLOPs came out, I didn't get even one, I thought fuck it.

I still remember the glorious days when games were released along with development tools and such games grew a community. Just look at Wolf:ET. Logged a good 400+ hours on that son of a bitch, mostly thanks to the people and the games. Fucking hell, someone made a map of Minas Tirith from LotR and it was cool as fuck.

5 DLCs? Fuck them, fuck them all to hell.

I wouldn't really say its "wrong"

No one is personally taking money from that producer, and most fans of the game will buy it at some point even after torrenting it. It's really more like borrowing the game from a friend. I'm not gonna lie and say everybody buys the games they torrent, but some do. Hell amnesia was so good that i made damn sure to buy a copy, even though I beat it already.

EDIT: And i tell everyone XX game was good if i enjoy it, so its free and effective advertising as well.

However, I don't really buy DLCs because I don't think they're needed. Especially now that I still haven't memorized MW3's maps.
