It won't take long for a student to report you to the police and get in contact with the school (which will be very easy to do), followed by figuring out who you are and tracing it back to the other fakes being sold throughout the state.

As clever as this whole thing might seem, it will be very easy to figure out that someone is jumping between towns selling these things. One photo taken of you selling this iphone in 'city a', and another photo taken of you selling it in 'city b', is enough to get them coming after you (at least if I were one of them).

For the sake of being safe (which I believe anyone in this business should make a #1 priority), it's good to think about these types of scenarios. As unlikely as you think it might not happen, it is still likely.

My suggestion would be the following:
1. Stay away from large public areas, there is always something in the area that can spot you, especially highly populated parts of town.
Especially keep away from selling on government owned property such as, airports, civic centers, theatres, etc. they are filled with cctv (doesn't matter if you think you don't see them).

2. Try altering your appearance as much as you can. A wig with a hat on top, colored contacts to change your eye color and glasses will go a very long way. Even if you have no record, other people can still identify you. Make it as hard as possible for someone else to identify you.

3. Keep your prints off of the box. If you've touched it during handling time and you have a record, you are as good as caught.

4. Don't create any patterns during your motives.

5. Don't use any device that connects to your real identity when you are online. At the very least, spoof your mac address and you use an open connection somewhere (unless you have the knowledge to crack the connection). Browse anonymously. Opera browser has the option of making "private tabs" to hide your browsing history. It's not the best of the best, but it's worthy if you are going all the way with this and very easy for the computer illiterate (which most people are). If you do know how to really work with a computer, then you know what to do. On top of that, you would know how to spoof an email address to be used for sending and receiving as well.
Try to avoid calls. If anything, use some form of voip instead of your cellphone.

6. Don't be greedy. Even doing 1 per week is risky in my opinion, unless you really got everything together. If you can manage 2 in one day, dealing twice a month, that will add an extra $1200 (roughly) to your month's earning.
This, in my opinion, is much safer, and still very rewarding.

The less you expose yourself, the better it is. Dealing with 10 people in one day means nothing!

All it means is that you are taking less days out of the week. The fact is, you are exposing yourself 10 times to 10 different people, who will all more than likely report you and have something to compare.
If you are shooting for 10 times, you should consider taking the effort to deal out of state.

These are just my "overboard" views. You don't have to consider any of them.
However, maybe consider this, if you break any of those 6 rules/"suggestions" then you should know that even I could catch you. If I can catch you, I don't see why someone else who is dedicated and has more authority and privileges can't.

Just watch your tracks closely. Selling it to some schmuck takes virtually no effort or even much "social engineering". Its the getaway that gets people caught.
Good luck and most important be safe
Nice tips. My area has virtually no cameras as it is a small rich town. And I will trade away from cameras. The school idea is pretty bad because no student will have £300 cash on them or even in credit card. Plus students would attempt to play with the phone.

I have an iPhone 3G and yeah you can turn it on but nobody does because it can fuck it up if you turn it on before connecting to iTunes.

The same applies to your sale. A buyer cannot demand you to rip open your "brand new" box, just for them to peep inside and only then decide if they want it or not. This deters the value. If a buyer like this comes around, just move on by.

The market for iphones is huge. You will always find a person who will not give such a demand. This is where patience plays it's roll.
Yeah. I will just tell them, "you are not opening the box because I will lose so much value if you decide not to take it."

Just remember that you are the boss and it is your iPhone and tell them to fuck off if they want to fuck you about. Show them who is the boss.

Okay guys so I will put an ad on CL today.

When my friend meets with buyer what should he say?

Maybe if he greets the buyer then offers to open shrink wrap and show buyer that everything is in there?

Any ideas?

And the police won't do anything because if the buyer realises its a dummy on scene and you give him his money back you have not committed a crime.

Patience definitely pays off,a lot of people are looking for these things. Someone seems hesitant just wait for someone else. I sold about 5 things on Craig list and it was all legit. Two of the buyers didn't fully test the product, hell I had someone buy a ps3 with out even testing it.

It's also good imo to be aggressive but don't throw off that thug/shaddy vibe. Just explain to the person sir if I open up the item it's gonna cost me a good chunk of cash. If the person is asking to much or is pushy just say sorry I understand your concern but no can do.
