Lightbulb inexpensive oil change

My buddy changes his own motor oil and likes to use the full synthetic stuff. He drives an Xterra so he normally needs one if those 5 quart jugs. Those normally run about 29 dollars each. Then he needs one of those nice fram filters that run like 12 dollars each. Thats more than 40 bucks an oil change. He realized that all the oil filters rang up as "oil filter" and all oil, regardless of size or brand rang up as "motr oil". So he took a barcode off the cheapest quart of oil and stuck it on the jug of Mobil 1 and a barcode off the cheapest filter and stuck it to the expensive filter he needed and proceeded through self checkout. The filters weigh the same so the scale didn't gripe and for the oil he just chose "do not bag". The receipt showed oil and a filter so the cunt at the door bid him a nice day. My buddy got a 40 dollar oil change for like 6 bucks. Now he does full synthetic oil changes for other people and charges them like 30 bucks.

Step 1: barcode oil and filters
Step 2: do oilchange
step 3: profit!

My friend just makes the oil change inexpensive by putting the filter in his pocket and waistbanding the oil quarts. An 80 dollar oil change was only 39.99 the other day.

My friend's jeep leaks oil and he goes to Oil Can Henrys for the top-off-guarantee and has them fill in a quart or two every 1000 miles. It's like a continuous oil change.

Then after 4000 miles, he takes it in, covers his dash, and when they ask for his milage, he tells them exactly 10 miles less than the sticker in his windshield shows so that he gets the $10 off.

When it rains, he can see oil trails leading to the parking lots that are adjacent of the stores he lifts from.

I wonder if a person could just drain all their oil right before going in to get their fluids checked and get a whole new load of oil. But then there's the oil filter...

He should think about getting that fixed. Putting off maintenance will lead to more problems.

In my area, only 2 out of 6 Walmarts have self checkouts. The two that have them are in the nicer parts of town. Not sure why the others don't have them. The newest one in a really nice area doesn't even have one, weird. I love self checkouts- minimal interaction with the employees.

I recently had a conversation with someone in the know. More and more stores are removing self check outs due to the loss they feel is happening with the lack of coverage ....

just a thought

Make sure u get Mobile 1 full synthetic, it is the best. If u pair it with a Fram xtended guard filter u can go 10000+ miles before your next oil change

Small price to pay to maintain your car because if you don't you'll be spending much much more on either repairing your current car or buying another. This is money well spent.

When it comes to cars, you generally get what you pay for, so, keep that in mind.

....no,
At least the shop I work in we have to write on the work-order how much oil is being put in. Would work with wind shield washer fluid i guess?

Tip: when you go for an oil change, ALWAYS bring your own oil and filter to the shop. I cant remember the cost per-liter offhand, but its nearly twice the price if you use the garage's oil.. And its just normal Quaker State 5W and 10W/30. So go to walmart or wherever, and pick up some quarts of oil before going to the garage.

Not only that but some times those scum bags won't bother changing the filter, they just wipe the old one off

If I have to have any vehicle serviced by anyone who isn't my normal mechanic I tag whatever is supposed to be getting replaced. Air/Oil filters, rotors, pads, belts, etc. Whatever... it gets marked somehow (usually just as simple as chalk or a sharpie) so I know damn well it was removed.

I knew a girl when I was in college who was a real gearhead. Pretty blond thing, but she could rebuild an engine blindfolded. It amused the shit out of her to take her car in to one of these shitshop big box muffler-shop mechanic places with a simple problem that she already knew how to fix and play the "lawl, I'm just a woman!" act. And when they inevitably assumed she was utterly ignorant of the workings of an automobile they'd try to up-sell her all sorts of overpriced shit.

She didn't call them on their bullshit herself, though. She call her fiance in to do that. Big muscle gym guy. She liked 'em big, dumb, and pretty. She'd coach him on the script, have him get all 'roidragey about ripping her off and watch them squirm. They had a few stories about getting free service out of it.
