I have a hard time believing they took off in formation, if at all. I've seen videos of jets taking off 2x2 and that seems pretty dangerous, I dont know how they handle wake turbulence.

On a side note, imagine the cost of just starting up 60 jets to have them taxi around and the labor the fully arm them...its still pretty cool though

Two by two isn't very dangerous, given proper spacing. The only issue is the vortices, they make for a very turbulent flight for the middle plane in a staggered 3 wide formation, which is dangerous because the planes are so close together. The middle plane can't veer left or right in a 3-wide formation, but a 2x2 formation, they can bank out of the vortices if need be.

I read the USAF article linked to in the comments, and it says they didn't take off. It'd be horrible for two of them to collide when S. Korea is trying to show it's military cock.

Thats true, but (from my lay person view) a 2x2 still cant be very safe. I guess that military jets have the luxury of powering out of trouble if they lose lift or encounter turbulence. 3 wide seems pretty dumb/unnecessary. With the time it take to line them up on the ramp, it'd probably wouldnt save much time vs 2 wide. Plus, if you crashed 3-wide, you'd be SOL

yea the "wake" from a plane, the different pressure air it leaves, makes a plane directly behind it take a longer time taking off.
