Re: anyone on here like fishing?
i'm heading here in a few months
http://g.co/maps/9ysyc
and along that coastline. its nice clean waters down there but can get quite rough tho. good for bass tho, i used to fish it as a kid on holiday and would pull out nice size pollock every other cast.
i know theres tons of sand eel down here. sometimes you look off the harbor wall and see millions of the things. so the predatory fish feed on them a lot. mackerel too are abundant. so i got a bunch of jelly eels and i'm gonna pick up some mackerel and sand eel looking plugs. the yo zuri's and rapalas have been recommended. maybe some poppers too. see how i go on that.

You're gonna want to get some salt water lures then if its off of coastlines.

it is, cornwall is like a completely different world. its like all the best bits of england without any of the usual bullshit you get on a daily basis everywhere else. especially in the summer, it gets that little bit hotter than the rest of the country but your always close to the ocean so you get that freshness, all that sea air and everything. have you ever been here at all?
oh and you get piskies, like their everywhere down there.

Piskies? Is that a nickname for some type of fish?

Spear fishing ftw
Crab fishing with nets can be a good time as well, but you've gotta be in the right location to stay entertained.

I use a cast net to catch crabs. When they are in season, and the tide is right, I can fill a bushel in less than an hour off a pier.

seeing your screen name is "MIDWEST" and where the fish are indigenous to... I'd say you already released the PI yourself! Besides, who's to say you weren't on a fishing trip?

you need to make 50 posts first. then a thanks button will appear next to the quote, multi-quote and quick reply buttons in the bottom right of other peoples posts.

near the gulf of mexico
usually fishing for:
speckled trout
red fish (red drum)
flounder
snapper
tuna
amberjack
king mackerel
Spanish mackerel
jack cravelle
mahi-mahi
Also, I almost exclusively fish on live bait, unless I happen to be dicking around in a pond for bass.

Re: anyone on here like fishing?
Cast netting is frowned upon where I live, mainly because 95% of cast netters are fucking dickheads who come up to a quiet place where you've got a line in and throw it right next to you, or just rape the shit out of the breeding areas 'for bait'.

Re: anyone on here like fishing?
HAHAHA I know what you mean. I normally just go for bait. But if theres a decent game fish in the net, I have in the past , kept a couple.
When I was younger I would catch stone crabs bare handed and keep a claw. Walking in the rocky shallows, I would find conch and other edibles.
To cut the time down on what I was fishing for I would chum the beach in the AM and then use the cast net to get a couple fresh fish for a meal. At the time, I only kept what I could eat for a day or two.

Re: anyone on here like fishing?
i've read on fishing forums people talk about not mentioning the good marks online as when they do the next time they go there will be illegal nets put down. i'm not sure what kind of nets they are tho.
i actually thought about leaving nets across a thin part of a river during the salmon spawning season before. but that was more a commercial adventure. i'm guessing that would most likely be illegal tho.

Re: anyone on here like fishing?
i bet you could do alright if you set it in a decent bass mark. they go for a good price here, like up to £100 a fish for the bigger ones. while i'm in cornwall i'm definitely gonna inquire whether the local restaurants are up for some fresh from the ocean.

they are illegal without permits. keeping any game fish you catch in a net is illegal anyways.
