Introducing: Live Topics (part 2) - DISABLED

Had to disable it. It was bringing the site to a halt. The average load went up something like 50%.


Alright, I just installed a pretty cool mod that might help in threads with active conversation.

The idea is that it'll auto-append new posts in a "live" thread as they're posted, no need to refresh the page. The topic remains live until 5 minutes have passed since the last post. Once the thread has been idle for 5 minutes it'll turn into a regular thread and you'll have to refresh like always.

So, I'll keep this thread "live" for everyone to test.

If you come across any errors (like you can't post or edit or something), please PM me/post here.

Oh, I see. Some of the threads I am clicking on are having the first few posts disappearing, and some of them are taking me to pages I didn't click on. The View First Unread button is not working right, somehow.

I personally hate this idea. I've already been pissed off by it.

I was going to quote a post, and as I was trying to click the quote button, the post melted away before my eyes, never to be quoted or copied again.

This is going to make active threads cluster fucks of morphing shit.

I demand an option to turn this shit off, I don't want my zoklet live. Stupid concept imo.

What do you mean it "melted"? All it did was get bumped up. Or at least that's how it should work.

Some posts do fade away, much like they "un-melt" into existence when a new one is made.

Ah, I think I know what you guys mean. It should be fixed though. The system has a limit of how many posts to show per page before cutting off the older ones. It was 20 before, some people have the max per page (35?), so I just increased it to 50 to be sure. Older posts shouldn't be cut off anymore.

EDIT: No, no manual disable. It's a forum wide thing...

^I don't understand what that means, and I don't care to learn, but so long as posts cannot be deleted from my stable screen than its ok I guess.

Maybe you could edit it like that, as in new posts can be added at any time, but posts cannot be deleted.

That's the major problem I have with this, is that people are going to be deleting their posts, which I do not want deleted (from my screen). I experienced this almost instantly. So as long as posts do not leave my thread pages, I don't really care what gets added in.

Ghost Buster, it's not that the new mod is deleting content or anything-- that post by mizled that you saw disappear was because he himself deleted his post.

Also does this mean no more ninja-editing?

I frequently quote people who are in the process of editing or deleting their posts. Now when I try to do such, the quote button will vanish before my eyes. This is not acceptable.

E: There will be ninja editing. A ton of it. You could post in a thread and delete it, and unless someone manages to click the quote button for the few seconds it was up, it can't be quoted. Even if someone refreshed the page right at the time it was posted.

I like the feature that shows post edits as they happen, can you just get the quote button to stay after they have edited their post?

2. Go to job/class
3. Come back and open same thread in new window
4. Quote the people who deleted their posts

Sadly, these days are now over, because evidently you all think constant spam refreshing is a much needed feature.

Neat Idea i suppose., although hitting the f5 key wasn't too taxing on my physique anyways.
To be honest, having the hot topics on the right live would be much handier.

Absolutely. I don't care how many millions of times you want your page refreshed per second.

I'd like that number to be 0 for myself. I don't have a problem if you set yours to 1,000,000,000 page refreshes per second.

What is the motive for using this feature? I don't get why you would even try to implement it.

It was raping the server pretty bad.

Went up an easy 50% disk load.
