Tide Laundry Detergent
Saw this online today: http://www.thedaily.com/page/2012/03...ide-theft-1-4/
Quote:
Law enforcement officials across the country are puzzled over a crime wave targeting an unlikely item: Tide laundry detergent.
Theft of Tide detergent has become so rampant that authorities from New York to Oregon are keeping tabs on the soap spree, and some cities are setting up special task forces to stop it. And retailers like CVS are taking special security precautions to lock down the liquid.
One Tide taker in West St. Paul, Minn., made off with $25,000 in the product over 15 months before he was busted last year.

Why the fuck are they trading tide for drugs? Are meth heads suddenly feeling the need to be cleaner?

Re: Tide Laundry Detergent
All you would have to do is take it back and get store credit. Around here they do this with the baby formula. You take one case of that and have like $100. You can fit like 10 or so cases in a cart.... This size of tide goes for about $20 a bottle. You trade in 10 or so a week, get your partner to do the same and you got your drug money for the week.

Re: Tide Laundry Detergent
The price of tide varries depending on your location. When I lived out in California I would pay about $15 to $17 for the 100oz bottle at my local safeway and the other stores there. But when I moved to the east coast I noticed that stores like walmart, target and most of my grocery stores carry the bottles for $11 to $12. Obviously you would make more money out of this scheme stealing it in more expensive areas... anyway just thought I would include this. It really shocked me to see price differences between two cities.

true, but baby formula doesnt come in gallon jugs weighing 10 lbs. I would think after this happened a few times, stores would be on the lookout for cart-fulls of Tide rolling out the door...
Seeing a crackhead with 10 jugs of Tide in the grocery store isnt super common.

I know of a shit load of much smaller and lighter weighing items that sell for $20 to $30.
It sounds like a hoax to me. Unless there is some new drug formula...like in Buffalo Soldiers, where they need a bunch of cleaning supplies to cook up drugs.

Re: Tide Laundry Detergent
I looked under my sink today and realized that I use Tide laundry detergent. I buy all mine with gift cards and I keep a surplus with ease. So, it's not that hard to get, and it doesn't cost that much...

BTW, according to Consumer Reports, Tide is the most effective, and my experience confirms that. Stuff is expensive, though--I always wait till it goes on sale, and stock up.

Maybe true, but that one guy who stole $25k made laundry theft mainstream news...it probably brought more attention to the thefts and inspired some copycats

Re: Tide Laundry Detergent
Come on guys! It's heavy and a major expense for some businesses. If you don't know a business that uses a shit load of it, it's useless for you.
Baby formula is probably 10 times larger bc it cost the same or more for a smaller quantity and there's a higher demand for it....you just need to know how to get rid of it.
I've heard baby formula, steaks, razor blades, and liquor are the most stolen items from retailers.
I overheard someone saying this, so I'm not completely sure, but they sounded like they knew EXACTLY what they were talking about.

Re: Tide Laundry Detergent
I knew some crack heads that did nothing but boost Head and Shoulders shampoo. They'd take boxes of it to different small, mom and pop type stores, get cash, and go buy their dope. They did it over and over. These small businesses knew it was boosted merchandise, but they were getting a deal.
I saw this one dude walking out of CVS like Wyat Earp. He was a tall, lanky nigger with long legs. The dude had 28 bottles of shampoo in his pants! He'd wear sweats under his pants with the ankles tied with shoe laces to keep the bottles from falling out. How he kept getting away with it was beyond me. I saw him hit the same store 3 times in a row one time!
I suspect this is Tide thing is something similar.

Re: Tide Laundry Detergent
I finally saw this on the news, so apparently it's not a hoax. I know OTC medicines are in demand by fences, but Tide...
I bet a big box of Tide could get barcoded for a small box of Tide...

28 bottles was the count. He went in 2 more times for a total of about 75. Said he was feeling "hot". Can't really get into too much more detail than that.
Totally fricken nuts!

Most of the drug stores my friend frequents do not have guards. They have a set of cameras to keep a eye on boosters who run in and run out with stuff.
At CVS there should be this setup,
one tv monitor with a camera at the doors.
one dome pointed over the pharmacy section of the store, normally watching the otc aisles.
one dome over the women's cosmetics aisle, pointed in a straight direction.(normally mounted directly over the perfume glass case)
and the register will have exposed cameras.
There should be a ton of blind spots if you stay out of the view of those cameras. Additionally none of the cameras can move or zoom. They are all fixed color cameras.

Re: Tide Laundry Detergent
It's an article from The Daily, owned by News Corp... and it's written in a sensationalistic way. I wouldn't take it seriously.
However, I may add that there's a supermarket here in Marseille, France, that has bottles of Pantene shampoo inside alarmed plastic cases (the ones normally used for electronics).
