New Mars Volta album!!

Somehow only just found out about this and downloading a leaked version now (no way I'm waiting three weeks).

Really liking what I've heard. Didn't really like Octahedron but their other four albums are all probably in my top ten.

Not into many bands that are still active so it's pretty exciting when a new album by one is released.

So anyone been looking forward to this? Thoughts on the single?

Edit: Also, their new drummer is the best yet.

Sounds good, I used to love them, good to see a new album, hope fully it is more like their older stuff

Yeah I know what you mean. There's a few songs I like on it so far (Aegis, Dyslexicon, Noctourniquet, The Malkin Jewel are pretty good) but others that seem, yeah, kind of random for the sake of it.

Gonna give it a few more listens before I make my mind up, took me about 10 listens to really get into Bedlam and it's my second favourite album of theirs now. Really not sure about the synth in so many tracks, maybe it'll grow on me.

Didn't expect it to be as good as say Deloused (best album ever recorded for my money), at the moment I'm thinking it's better than Octahedron but not as good as the rest.

I loved De-Loused, but Frances the Mute really turned me off with the whole deal of 4 20-minute tracks. I mean yeah, I know they want you to listen to the whole album at once, and for it to be an experience, and i've definitely done that many times, but you know, sometimes you just want to skip to the next track when they're jerking around with their ambient noise shit for like 3 minutes at the end of a song.

And I haven't bought anything of theirs since. Should I?

Mars Volta is more enjoyable on psychedelic drugs. I will not give the new album a listen until I am on them

I've always loved Volta. I've just never really cared much for "Amputechture" or "Bedlam in Goliath". "Octahedron" got me back in to them pretty strong though. heard their new single a few weeks and thought it wasn't bad. quite different, even for Volta.

about to check out the album now though.

I guess all-together, I like the album. but even a year ago I would have instantly dismissed it and not necessarily because of my old love/hate relationship with Volta, but more due to the simpler structuring and sound compared to what they're more known for. in a way this one sounds a little forced and it's kind of easy to tell Omar and Cedric have been a little rocky lately. but hell, At The Drive In are reuniting so things can't be that bad. I feel their approach with this album is kind of a good thing, though; seeing as that they can really go anywhere from here, if they decide to.
