Worst Automotive Fluid?
As the title suggests, what is the automotive fluid that you hate the most?
For me, its gotta be burnt transmission fluid or differential fluid.

Geeky thread.
Hypoid gear oil stinks, and nothing seems to wash the smell off.

Re: Worst Automotive Fluid?
Gear oil with friction modifier for limited slip differentials that has been in a rear for several years. I've been around dead bodies, sulfur dioxide, concentrated ethyl mercaptan, old people... and in my entire lifetime I have never smelled something that has made me spontaneously vomit, other than this.

Supercharger oil is pretty bad. Never had to replace bad oil, but the fresh stuff is already bad enough.

At least with GM superchargers, the gearbox has it's own oil supply.

interesting, I dont know much about superchargers, but I thought I read somewhere that they have a oil sump and you have to plumb oil lines to/from it (at least for aftermarket SC's)

Every non-centrifugal SC I can think of off the top of my head has a self contained lubrication system. Aftermarket centri SCs sometimes do use pressurized oil from the engine, and require plumbing lines - mostly older Vortechs and Paxtons - but these days they're also switching to self contained, following the lead of the Procharger.

Not specifically automotive but WD-40. Everything that comes in contact with it rusts.

Diff lube is so popular a mention for good reason. That followed by lanolin.

Re: Worst Automotive Fluid?
You know what smells the best? Rich whiffs of diesel exhaust fumes. Methanol fumes suck but it's not really the smell so much.

Old wd40 smells the best, before they changed the composition in the mid 90s.

Newer blends use propylene glycol instead of the older ethylene. PG is also a food additive.

From what I've heard, newer antifreeze still uses ethylene glycol. They just add a bitterant to prevent anything from drinking it. I like the smell of antifreeze, I've always wanted to market antifreeze flavored candy, but for some reason Prestone never returns my calls.

It does smell kinda nice. I think the green still uses EG and it may be the yellow I'm thinking of. I'll have to read the labels next time I get a a chance.

Why you've drank sugar free Red Bull? I can't stand the taste of the regular stuff as is, and it doesn't give me an energy in the first place.
Oddly, I have no reaction to caffeine except for pissing a lot. 1 mg of it in one go? Nothing but piss. Piss. Everywhere.

Re: Worst Automotive Fluid?
As far as best smelling automotive related fluid, that award has to go to PB Blaster.

I agree with you on this. This might be why I can never actually keep a can of the stuff around.

Oh my gawd yes! I actually can't wait to get out to the track and hang around the pits. All that 110 and exhaust fumes. *sniiiiiiiiiiiiiiiffffff* it's like heaven.

Re: Worst Automotive Fluid?
lol, it might not be automotive related, but Miriam blue fluid is the worst thing imaginable, especially vintage stuff from the 60's. Just cracking the lid will evacuate a room.

Some sort of manometer fluid, like a mercury substitute for precision lab equipment.
Looks like it's made from bromethylbenzenes: http://www.meriam.com/resources/A358...ue%20Fluid.pdf
No wonder it's so pungent.
