Yep. My parents both work with (properly) autistic kids and while there might be a high percentage that are somewhere on the spectrum (that 1 in 110) they don't suffer from it severely enough that it will actually prevent them from leading a completely normal life.

no i think it's just that the world is becoming too soft. like everytime a kid does bad in school ppl just give them pills for it and say they have a mental illness. my sister for example just sits around all day and eats ice cream in the dim house so no wonder her brain is probably going into total chaos survival freakout mode so what does she do? she goes to the doctor and says she's depressed, now she has pills to make her happy so that she doesn't have to get outside and accomplish things or socialize to make herself happy anymore. I'm autistic, and I'm willing to bet my life is more sorted out that than the majority of people. It was more noticeable when I was a kid than as an adult, as I've had years to practice coping mechanisms to blend in with everyone else. Haha, yes it is easier to take care of yourself. On the flip side, I've found from personal experience: Women who want children are going to make your life HELL, ESPECIALLY if theyre your boss. I truly am at a point in my life of looking in no other direction financially than one that demands knowledge, experience and skill in what I am good at, and I can say fuck having people "above me" at least in terms of my demand. That's been a really "silent" life lesson I've had to learn in my whole "non kid having" journey in life.

Unfortunately too many very young teens don't even think about the possibility that their kid could be handicapped in some way. It's a huge responsibility. That's why sex is a big responsibility - you have to be prepared to make some tough decisions because it may not be the perfect baby, the perfect life, the perfect little famly that these delusional teen moms think.

I know autism is real and there are multiple reasons for the rise in numbers including a lack of diagnosis in years past. But if you look at a map of the US with rates of kids diagnosed with ADD/ADHD - you'll see most of them are concentrated in the eastern half of the US. The joke is the closer you get to Washington DC the more likely you have ADHD. But mostly it's over diagnosed to make doctors money.

Most kids do not like to settle down to school work or books and would rather run and play outside. Why someone thinks that means they have a learning disorder (aka ADHD) is beyond me. Of COURSE it's hard to sit still and focus when it's a beautiful sunny day and you'd rather be riding your bike! Wouldn't we all?

You should know just by being around me that ADD and ADHD are very real. I'm sure that it is over-diagnosed, and not everyone who has been diagnosed with one or the other actually has it. But for those of us who do have it, it does create a world of problems.
