Like, Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow, and to a lesser extent Gold/Silver. I had to force myself to stop liking it in my teen years, since being yourself is totally uncool, but if it ever became socially acceptable to be an adult Pokemon fanboy then I'd totally be all over that shit again.

It's just so addicting. All the Pokemon were so unique and interesting, and the worlds were so fun to explore. Fuck, fuck, fuck... youth well spent, I'll tell you what.

I have a 3DS, and was thinking about buying the next game, but ehhh... I don't know any of the new Pokemon, and I feel like to really enjoy it I'd have to be obsessed with it again. If they release the old ones on the 3DS' virtual console equivalent, I'll totally buy that shit though.

Pokemon was cool when I was under 10 and there were only 151 of them. The game was fun but fuck playing it now. I can't be fucked killing 5000 ratatat to get a level up....Actually, that's basically why I stopped playing games altogether. Such a waste of life.

I recently started a new game in my Blue version on GBC again. Sometimes it's awesome to go back to basics, even if it's purely for nostalgia. But I do have a friend who never missed a Pokemon game or promotional event, and he says they're still excellent. I continued for a while, and I must say that Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald are excellent, and Diamond/Pearl/Platinum are great too. Each new set has not only more pokemon to catch, but so many more activities and new forms of game play. I think that's what keeps the series from getting stale for any significant length of time.

Gen I was pretty awesome. I caught all 150 on Red using Pokemon Stadium on the N64 and my brother's copy of Blue. The 3x speed was really useful for grinding to get shit to evolve. Those got stolen when our house got burgled though

Gold/Silver was also pretty sweet. I liked the new stuff like the berries and the night/day cycle etc. I admit I did feel kind of short-changed when you get like halfway or 2/3 through the game and you get a boat ride back to the original games map (Kanto?)

Sapphire was also pretty cool, I liked some of the new pokemon a lot, like Salamence, Metagross, Kyogre etc.

I haven't played any pokemon games since then, I got kinda tired with essentially buying the same game every time. It is kinda ridiculous how little changes between each generation. And they're lazy as shit with it, like I don't think pokemon in battles are even fully animated yet? Yeah I get that in the original and maybe even the GBC sequels, but after that is just being fucking lazy.
Also why the fuck have they not made a fully 3D version of the games on the home consoles? I mean like a literal version of the games, not some instanced stadium/arena bullshit.

This, this, this. Thank you. I really enjoyed pokemon in my younger days, too. But, I haven't played on in ages. It's just too much. There's waaaay too man pokemon and not enough has changed.

And, the battles still aren't animated yet.

But, I agree with you, Blunderful. It was really cool. There's few other games that give me such a feeling of nostalgia, outside of pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow. It's just a shame that they've kinda beaten a dead horse with their concepts, though.

Man when I was sorting my shit to go to uni, I found my old gameboy colour (pokemon edition, of course), with Blue in it. I fired that shit up, had 149 on the pokedex and every pokemon was level 99 or 100.

I was proud of my young self, it brought a tear to my eye.

Never played them since I lost interest but it seems like after the original 150 they just kept stacking on as many critters as possible and thus they lost their charm. Plus I starting raising turtles around then and irl animals are a hell of a lot more interesting than cartoons.

They should just make a game where you can catch all of them. One cartridge allows you to catch 50%, the other cartridge allows you to catch the other 50%. I just don't understand why they feel the need to keep making more and more pokemon games.

Obviously it's all about the money now. Allowing half the Pokemon on one, and half on the other, doubles your sales. It sucks but it's smart from a business standpoint.

Bah, I explained that wrong - what I mean is - the game, let's pretend it's Red and Blue - you can catch all 1,000+ pokemon on them. One game allows you to catch 500, the other game you can catch the other 500.

Pokemon red was fucking awesome when I was a kid. But if I played these games now, well, I think I'd be pretty bored.

The game really doesn't have any great climax. You beat the Elite 4, and that's it. You just restart with the same pokemon and you keep fighting endlessly. Especially when you have lvl 120+ pokemon that kick all the AI pokemon's asses.

The only fun part for me is the collecting of the pokemon. Getting all 151 is a real challenge. But the fights kinda suck unless maybe you are fighting with a friend over the gameboy link. Even then, the fights are pretty predictable, and if both players are evenly matched, you might as well go "eenie meenie miney moe".

After I played the game to death, the Gameshark made the game very fun. For a while, anyway.

Pokemon could have appealed to an older audience much better.

The anime had the potential to be good, but they decided to just use the same plot every episode. Where ash is like "im gonna be the best" but then decides to throw out all hes high level pokemon and start over with a bunch of weak ones, and also pikachu who goes back to being a level 1 pikachu at the beginning of every season. cause the show is shit
