Do you ever feel detached from the world?
It's a weird feeling that I can't describe very well, but I'll try my best.
It never happens when I'm at home, or in a safe, familiar place. For example, let's say I'm in a new setting, like a new job. I'm in a whole new building, with new people, and new work to do. I'll be there for an hour or so, and then think, "Wait... am I really here? It doesn't make sense that I'm fucking here. " and then I think I'm going to wake up in my room or something.
I feel really fucking detached from where I am, like I don't belong in that plane of existance or something. Does anybody have any idea what I'm talking about?

Re: Do you ever feel detached from the world?
yeah I get kinda what you're saying. Sometimes I feel pretty third-persony and everything kinda dies.. my emotions, reaction-time, thoughts... everything just kinda stops and I feel like I just "lose" it. Not like go crazy, just stop really being there.
It happened while I was typing that up.

I get it at least a couple times a day but it fades away after a bit. I really don't like when it happens at work or when I'm driving.

I experience this occasionally as well. At least I think I do. Fuck, I don't know.

Re: Do you ever feel detached from the world?
I used to have those moments a lot more when I was a kid. These days, I still analyze pretty much everything that goes on around me so whenever I feel that way, it just seems natural.
Some days, I think of my daily ventures as 3rd person. Like "look at my day". And when I do that, the world around me sometimes falls out of relevance.

Yea I have surreal depersonalization episodes, my brain just crawls into its shell sometimes. I've come to kind of enjoy them, it's like being high for free.

yup people drown swimming cause they think they are not there. it's fucked
although I doubt you have a serious depersonalization. Probably just some retard version of where you are socially awkward and spend to much time in your head.

Re: Do you ever feel detached from the world?
Yeah that shit used to happen to me all the time, then something changed and now I can easily snap back to reality if it happens. I sort of just ground myself when I feel too floaty I guess.

Mine is more of this one. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Derealization
The feeling of viewing the world behind a pane of glass is just exactly what I feel like when I go out. I've had it for years, like since I was a teenager. I fucking hate it.

Re: Do you ever feel detached from the world?
I can totally relate to what OP is talking about.
I did Spice once and it was from a bong and what happened, I believe, was I got so much pure JWH or whatever synthetic research chemical was in the blend and I took two hits.
Now mind you I never really did any drug except weed but I barely even buzzed off of it but at that point in time up until I smoked the Spice I never really had the dissociation/derealization. After my trip which was a journey through a hellish nightmare that I couldn't even begin to describe and time dilation that tore the fabric of reality for me it was very difficult for me to come to terms with what I experienced.
Afterwards even when I wasn't high I just often nodded into a state of pure dissociation but without the anxiety-provoking thoughts. The anxiety would only come if I thought too hard about the state of consciousness I was in but even then it was weird. Often times I would question "Am I really here? Is all this real, or is this just someones imagination or even mine?" These strange thoughts used to scare the fuck out of me until I started researching psychology and consciousness. I began to realize that it shouldn't scare me because my perception and state of thought were blending in with my environment. The latter sentence sounds really bad but it's so hard to describe just like how OP is trying to describe it. Anyways, I realized that I shouldn't let these thoughts control me or scare me because I realized that it was me just shifting consciousness and I would return to baseline, another way to think of it is just like what The-Pat Man said "It's being high but for free."
My point being is that what I think OP, everyone relating to OP, and me are experiencing is an altered state of consciousness, and even though it doesn't occur in everyone it still is just another way for us to see things differently. Still, its fucking weird as hell.

Re: Do you ever feel detached from the world?
When I was a teenager I used to stare in the mirror and periodically look at my hand (while moving it around) and feeling a sense of PROFOUND sense of amazement and disbelief of what I am. I guess you could call it derealization. It was an unreal feeling!

These
I also get it when a panic attack comes on, though not to the same extent as a dissociative, yet definitely more intense emotionally.
It always feels like my vision is pulled back a bit from my head, yet at the same time I have extreme tunnel vision/I'm focused on just what I'm looking at intensely. Just as bad as a bad trip. A lot more is also happening than just what I said here. It's like a bad trip with a bit of dissociative thrown in. When I first started getting panic attacks, I thought they were flashbacks (which I've also had, and are pretty crazy).

Re: Do you ever feel detached from the world?
Yes. Very, very often. Like basically constantly, atleast when I'm around other people. It ALWAYS happens if I attend a party or some other gathering of people. It's not uncommon for people to talk to me while I just nod my head and smile, and then they ask a question and I have no idea what the fuck they've been talking about...
