I never did delete content on Zoklet - Zok's forum, moderate within his guidelines - when I think about it, and always used the trash thread in LL&R, but it was never a problem to do so on Totse and I frequent some very well-run forums which practise content deletion.
However, that's another debate entirely.
The only other thing I would say on-topic is to not be afraid to moderate because of the reactions you might get (particularly for female mods). As long as rules are clearly laid out and you justify yourself somewhere separate where it doesn't interfere with the rest of the forums, you're in the right. Do what you think is best for the forum - that's why people are made mods.
