Re: Quit smoking the easy way..holy shit, my experience
Personally I might be a smoker, or not, I'm on the fence. But I respect those who make changes in their life, knowing they can do better.

Re: Quit smoking the easy way..holy shit, my experience
The psychological addiction is much harder to fight in the long term.
I can stop smoking whenever (no, I'm not in denial and I don't smoke alot).
It could be a week, or sometimes months later, I suddenly feel the urge to do it and I become obsessed. I start to miss how it relaxed me, how it tasted and how satisfied I would feel after a smoke, so I go out and buy a deck, starting the cycle of smoking all over again.

People claim it is impossible, but I know plenty of people who have quit cold turkey and had no desire to have a smoke. I smoked non-stop for 3 months, sometimes 2-3 packs in a night(lol acid, y u make me smoke)...then did acid without smoking and bam, no more desire to smoke. I developed a physical repulsion for cigarettes.
Fast forward 12 months, I just bought a pack and had a few.

Re: Quit smoking the easy way..holy shit, my experience
I downloaded this audio book back in January. I listened to the first few chapters, then deleted it. A week or so later I just said fuck it and quit smoking. Did the book work? I dunno, all he does is keep repeating the same shit over and over it a werid brainwashing sort of manner. I got bored with it, and whether or not those few chapters affected me, I already wanted to quit, and I just did it. End of story. Now it's just a matter of not starting again. I'm good and over the habitual need and withdrawal from nicotine.

its true, and with cigs at every store its an easy choice to make. Its more the habit than "withdrawls" that fuck people, needing to do something with their hands or step outside for whatever reason.

Cocaine binds tightly at the dopamine transporter forming a complex that blocks the transporter's function. The dopamine transporter can no longer perform its reuptake function, and thus dopamine accumulates in the synaptic cleft. This results in an enhanced and prolonged postsynaptic effect of dopaminergic signaling at dopamine receptors on the receiving neuron. Prolonged exposure to cocaine, as occurs with habitual use, leads to homeostatic dysregulation of normal (i.e. without cocaine) dopaminergic signaling via down-regulation of dopamine receptors and enhanced signal transduction. The decreased dopaminergic signaling after chronic cocaine use may contribute to depressive mood disorders and sensitize this important brain reward circuit to the reinforcing effects of cocaine (for example, enhanced dopaminergic signalling only when cocaine is self-administered). This sensitization contributes to the intractable nature of addiction and relapse.
|
If you find yourself susceptible to it you will find it extremely hard to quit. If you think quitting cigs is hard, try dropping a crack habit. Your brain will be asking for that shit all fucking day for months and you never forget about the high. The dopamine rush haunts you for years and anyone who claims that cocaine isn't physically addictive to some extent has no idea as to what they're saying.

Re: Quit smoking the easy way..holy shit, my experience
Easy way helped me quit from 2 packs per day. In hindsight I attack some of the points however it really was fucking easy to quit. It seems very repetitive (eg "this book is so great, it's so easy, just read it etc") but really it can help a lot.
Two years later I can drink alcohol without even thinking about smoking and with zero desire. It's pretty fucking awesome.

Re: Quit smoking the easy way..holy shit, my experience
ive been smoking since i was 10. now im 20. not everyday.. like i havent had a cig in 3 days but i usually always have a pack...
i think i have the most silent/deadly addiction.
if im on heroin ill smoke 1-3 cigs a day, and ive done h quite a bit.
maybe i should listen to that book. i kinda want to quit but i put it off because i barely smoke as it is so thats what i tell myself, but 10 years later im sure my lungs are a bit fucked.

It is pretty repetitive, especially in the start. "You gotta read this", "it's so easy" etc but it does get better. There is more information in the middle to end but it is overly repetitive however it worked for me so I would recommend finishing it.

Yeah, I've stopped smoking for a period of a month or more about 10 or so times. I just fucking stop smoking when I want to quit. Books are for pussies with no will power.

Re: Quit smoking the easy way..holy shit, my experience
Anyone who has read this book probably gets a good laugh out of these "I have more willpower than any man on the planet" types.
They brag and boast about how easy it is to quit smoking and they can do it any time, but wait, what's this, they still smoke...
Not the sharpest tools in the shed are they?
Let's make this clear. There are absolutely no benefits to smoking. If you smoke, it's because you're addicted to them mentally or physically, most of the time it's both.
If you could quit on will power alone then you wouldn't smoke at all.
This book thoroughly debunks the willpower approach as nonsense.

Congratulations on quitting.
The book basically shines a light on the worthlessness of Tobacco and makes them so undesirable that quitting becomes easier. It doesn't try to scare you into quitting it just takes a common sense approach to it. It covers common claims that smokers make to justify smoking and debunks them all thoroughly.
Most smokers don't bother to think about such things. It's like if we worked together and I came up to you and said "hey, you need to do this this way", you would probably resent that because it feels like I am ordering you around.
If I, however, came and up and explained in detail why it's done a certain way it lessens the blow and helps you put things into perspective and internalize it.
That's sort of how this book works.

Re: Quit smoking the easy way..holy shit, my experience
Since this was bumped, I'll add my two cents.
I've been a smoker for about 6 years and Wednesday morning, I'm pretty sure I had hit my climax. I woke up around 6 with a nasty cough and spat out a dime sized tar ball. Absolutely disgusting. I have 4 smokes left, so I figured I'll finish them and start cold turkey again.
My longest streak of not smoking was around a year, and something that helped me that I'll try again was purchasing some dowel rods from Home Depot. I'd buy the ones roughly the size of a cig, and cut them down to length. It seemed to help, having something in my hand when I had a craving. I'd even take a "puff" and mimic the same actions.
I don't know, just something that has helped me in the past...
