When Schizophrenics Get Drunk, Do the Voices Get Drunk Too?
For the schizophrenics out there, when you get drunk do the voices in your head also get drunk? Do they tell you sillier things? Do they say things like "Oh man, I'm fucking wasted. I just don't care enough to keep bugging you. I'm gonna go bang this other voice in your head and call it a night."

I think the voices probably stop or quiet down a bit.

i have been suggested some pretty wacky stuff in a completely sober sounding voice while drunk
i remember being told to cover the school in cheese so that the air vents would smell of rotting cheese the next morning
i had sex with an imaginary anthropomorphic fox girl on several occasions

Man, being a schizo sounds cool.

Re: When Schizophrenics Get Drunk, Do the Voices Get Drunk Too?
I've only ever heard the voices while sober. When I'm recovering after a night of hard drinking, I just see weird fleeting hallucinations....

This, depending on the person at least. Whether it's a direct physiological response to alcohol, I don't really know. But studies have shown a correlation between alcohol abuse and schizophrenia. Drinking relieves psychological tension that keeps up our internal chatterboxes, and stress plays a big role in aggravating psychotic symptoms in schizophrenic patients especially. Perhaps this mental relief allows the voices to quiet down a bit, or at the very least, gives the patient a way to cope.

No. Everyone can read things in their head, or have fully fledged conversations up there. Most people can at least. If you can't that's more indicative of a problem than if you can.

I'm not schizo but the voices get drunk at a faster rate.

Re: When Schizophrenics Get Drunk, Do the Voices Get Drunk Too?
It depends on how much you drink, a serious binge with little to no food or sleep would probably strengthen the voices and cause them to be both a voice of reason as well as insanity. A few drinks can either calm or excite schizoid behavior and several drinks definitely tends to cause feelings of dissociation and many drinks will lead to general incoherence.
Whether or not the subjective interpretations of voices, visions, or hallucinations align with increased intoxication is dependent on the flavor. There are a lot of different schizophrenics that all have their own particular brand of crazy. Schizophrenia in actuality isn't one disease but an amalgamation of several.
