Sequins or sequined. You'll look really flamboyantly gay in that. Slutty girls wear that material on dresses when clubbing.

The best example I can think of is a gay pride event or Moe's from the Simpsons when he gets it all post modern and shit.

Well part of the idea is to look out of place. I was going to wear it out on the town, and at particularly cool parties (ie not most of the ones I go to).

I don't mean to sound like a unique snow flake or whatever, but I don't care much about what is currently fashionable. I care about what I think looks good. It's almost but not quite irrelevant what other people think looks good.
