It is possible to get caught. Seems each wireless router has its own MAC address.
A good firewall might be able to prevent detection.

Sorry to hear that it was stolen. Knowing the make and model always helps, but what you really need in order to 'track' it would be if you knew the MAC address of your stolen router. Then go out into the internet and ping the heck out of it....hoping that you would find it and get a reponse back. However, that would also be difficult not knowing where it was connected.....what ISP it is now connected to, and if it's not behild any kind of security firewall. I don't know how to get anymore specific than this, but its at least a start and good luck.
