So a friend of mine has just obtained some power tools from a few local stores. Decent quality stuff, DeWalt cordless drills, Bostitch pneumatic nail guns. About $800 worth of stuff. Since the tools themselves are worthless to him, he's wondering where he could sell them off to make his money. From lurking here, it seems that Craigslist is just asking to get caught. What about eBay? Is it as risky? I figure some dude selling 4 of the same exact tool brand new and unopened would look a bit sketchy to any cops lurking the bay. So what are your guy's suggestions?

What's a decent amount of time to wait for the heat to die down before trying to sell em?

I can't see to big of an issue. You have new unopened items that were obtained from stores. Not someones house, or a B&E - List one on each outlet... Pawn shops buy them at a fair price too.

Put an ad for a only used once drill and you willget a call
Accept calls until you sell all four..

man i lol'd at this. but i guess i was 12 once, so like skygear said. these items are not hot or you would have gotten stopped leaving the store. just stick em on ebay among the thousands of others on sale where nobody will bat an eyelid. if you're really para then list your account and the item as being in another state or something.

$800 is far to little for them to care about. The stores probably don't even know it's missing.

The items could be returned to a different chain of stores for instore credit and the gift cards could be sold.

local markets are good to get rid of goods but it only 800 bro use ebay if the cops ask say your bro or a freind works in a hardware store and he gave u the old stock

just ask any local self-employed builders or workmen. most of them will jump at the chance to get some cheap power tools, even if they just buy them cheap now as back ups to what they already got. you take a bargain when its there, not wait till you need one.
