who would you rate as the best ever female vocalist?
so yeah simple question, not so simple answer. i been thinking about doing this for a few days but have been thinking it over. i'll do male vocalists another day.
so anyway, i'm not asking you who your favorite singer or band is here, and this is nothing to do with the songs they sing or even if you like their music. its simply best voice ever in recording history. so top 5 in order i would personally put:
obviously everyones gonna have their own opinion and there could well be artists i've forgotton so we'll see where this goes and maybe have a poll on the results.

good clarity, vocal ability and good sweet sounding voice. whatever is the best ever voice to you basically. i'm kinda expecting paramore fans to come in saying hayley williamz just cause they are fans, but that's not the idea of this. but its down to you ultimately to what constitutes best voice ever tho.

i was thinking celine dion too. can't say i like her as an artist but she does have a good voice, definitely in top 10 for me.

Celine Dion, are you guys fucking KIDDING me? There are plenty of female vocalists out there with beautiful voices, in which case you might as well say a famous opera singer is the greatest female vocalist. It's not just about talent, there are plenty of people out there with talent. There are jillions of people out there who absolutely shred at guitar, but get no respect. Celine Dion's music is absolute drivel, and as such i feel she deserves no respect as a vocalist. Is kenny g the greatest saxophone player? Is yngwie malmsteen the greatest guitarist? Hell no, it's not just about technical ability.
As for my vote, i'd like to recognize Victoria Legrand from Beach House as well as Joanna Newsom. Both are very unconventional singers, but they're great at what they do. Joanna Newsom is one of those polarizing singers who people seem to either love or hate. Sure her voice is bizarre as hell, but if you keep an open mind about it and not dismiss it for being different, her music is actually really beautiful.

If I had to pick a favorite female singer, I would go with Billy Holiday. She never had the range like alot of singers have, but thats kinna what I liked about her.
