Here's from personal experience.
I've been in a local band that had a professional recorded Demo and everything sounded legit, however our facebook page which is basically your bands TEMPLE had less than 1 thousand Friends. We ended up needing to sell 50 presale tickets of 25 dollars each to play at the whiskey a gogo.
A year later, i was touring for this band called name. They had an established friend base and had all of the professional aspects on the facebook/myspace and we played with Danzig and we didnt have to sell ANY presales.
