Oh god, what have I done?
Or.....
"Gettin' Crazy with the Cheez Whiz Rustoleum"
I saw this on AR15.com and thought it looked cool:
So here are the beginnings of me doing something similar to my AR15.
Looks kind of shitty/unfinished at the moment because it's just a base coat. But I'm going to put one more coat of tan/sand/whatever on it tomorrow as well as detail the thin spots.
Then I'll hit it with some dark brown and maybe a light dusting of OD.
Will post pictures of the finished product in a few days.

Re: Oh god, what have I done?
DIY camo is tough. Even after light use, spots will start wearing differently. Most of the home camo guns I've seen dont look amazing when you inspect them (maybe because most people compare them to factory applied camo). It'll probably look good from a distance though, and thats what's important.
Check this website out, http://www.predatorwild.com/topic/47...it-look-great/ it has some good basic ideas for DIY Camo. I've wanted to try a digi-camo pattern with die-cut vinyl stencils, but I've been too lazy/scared to attempt it yet...

Re: Oh god, what have I done?
Yeah I fully expect wear on the contact points, doesn't bother me too much cause it's just a rifle.
But worn camo looks better than the dings Colt so loving puts on it from the factory and the dings I've put on it through 3 years of usage.

yeah, look through that thread (3rd page is good...some different pics). Its a great start to diy camo.
I would add a little (just a little) OD to the sand colors...shadows help break up everything from a distance and help make the camo a little more versatile.
Check this out...I saw this when I was in the army: http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...UDPU4XQ9jZM6GQ (its a .mil pdf, fyi) The first link has a better pattern, but this link shows the taping better and some of the concepts behind camo weapon paint.
I would just play around with a piece of cardboard/newspaper before you add more layers. Its really easy to go back and add more, but its harder to start over or to remove paint.
#1 Rule (as you probably know) is paint layers light to dark ie. lightest color as base layer, 2nd lightest color, 3rd, etc

Re: Oh god, what have I done?
It's looking good, you should take it out in the brush and leave it in a spot. Then walk far back and take note of how close you are to it before you can tell it's a rifle. You could even add some strips and strings of burlap to hang off the rifle and break up the shape some. Is this the finished product as of now?

Re: Oh god, what have I done?
I'm prolly going shooting in the woods tomorrow and I'll hang it in some brush like you suggested, and probably get some pics.
And, yeah, this is probably the finished product but I may add done OD if I feel the current colors stand out too much.
You shoot the Mark 23 yet?

Yeah man, I'd hang it and check it out, no sense in adding OD if it don't need it or if the OD makes it stand out. Plus if it does stand out you'll know and maybe adding OD will help.
But yeah man I shot the 23 that's why I havent posted in days haha, I've been on a woods walk rampage. It's so damn accurate, the groups it shoots at 50 yards are insane; not a single malfunction either (Not that I expected one). I'm gonna go broke on account of all the .45 I'm shooting. I meant to reply in the one thread where we were talking about it but, I wrote out a good sized paragraph about it and when I clicked reply Zoklet had me auto-logged out and I lost the post so I didn't feel like rewriting it.

I heard you can just plug and play .45 Super through any of H&K's .45s.
Not sure how true it is but might be worth researching.

I look into it but I ain't trying it until I hear of someone else who has done it. I'd be a shame to bust up my new favorite toy cause I was being a cheapskate haha.

I believe it's just USP's but may be wrong. The forums on HKpro are the place to ask

Re: Oh god, what have I done?
That looks pretty badass! One of these days I am going
to sack up and camo one of my guns. Maybe my old faithful 870, it's already ugly so if I botch the camo job I'm not out much.

Re: Oh god, what have I done?
Was way too into being at the range and shooting to make any real effort at taking good pictures
So I just tossed it in the nearest cluster of bushes.
I think it blends pretty well for only being 10-15 yards away, the sling makes it stand out bad though:
It was kind of funny because everybody I went with was saying how cool the paint job looked.
Even the cops that rolled up with their ARs locked and loaded because the had reports of gunfire and thought we might've been trespassing liked it.
Anyway, they were just doing their jobs and are required to respond to any call of gunfire.
The one officer who was pretty gun-savvy asked if it was a real Aimpoint (his department outfits him with a Tasco Pro Point , though it was on top of a Colt 6520 ). He thought that painting a rifle was stupid til he saw my rifle, so I guess that was pretty cool.
I offered to let them shoot it, but they declined
Anyway, I am uploading some vids at the moment and will add to this thread as they finish.
