Underrated RPGs?

What are some decent RPGs out there that are good, but dont get much credit or are not well known? Im bringing this up because I picked up "Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits" the other day and its pretty good. I also picked up "Unlimited Saga". I havent played it yet, but I heard it sucked, so I donno yet. What else is good but underrated?

Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magicka Obscura.

They should really make another Arcanum game. Also Jade Empire is massively underrated in my humble opinion.

Planescape: Torment for PC.

If you're a console player, then Fallout 1 and 2 for PC are probably underrated for you.

Dark Messiah of Might and Magic is pretty slick as a fps/rpg.

And of course, there's always nethack.org , adom.de , various roguelikes.

Gothic 1 and 2 are extremely underrated.

Some good suggestions been made. Arcanum and PS:T especially. Will just add Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. After ps:t probably the best writing in an rpg.

River City Ransom.

I wouldn't say underrated but underrated for the rpg elements of the game. This is the first awesome rpg/action/choose your story game.

Bear in mind, River City Ransom is a side scrolling beat-em-up. The difference is that you level up your character by eating sushi and sitting in saunas.
