Thumbs Up What books would you like become a movie?

What books would you like to become movies?

I would like all the books of Dean Koontz to become movies.

Especially all of his sci-fi tales.

Dark Tower series. They keep talking about doing it. The suspense is killing me.

George R. R. Martin's "Tuf Voyaging". Haviland Tuf is quite an interesting character and as in Firefly he has his own trading ship. Though he is it's captain and crew too.

He becomes the captain/crew of an old Bio-Warship 30x5x3km (18x3x1.8miles).

He's a kind, though solitary, vegan. With this ship he gains the power to both terraform planets or sterilize them of life.

Ender's game, although I'm not sure that it would really translate well into a movie. If they could pull it off, though, it would be epic.

Kill your friends

If Patrick Bateman from American Psycho was a drug addict AND psychopath, this would be him.

I was going to say Irvine Welsh's "Filth" but i believe it's already coming out this year with James McAkavoy and Robert Carlisle in the lead performance, if your familiar with Trainspotting you will love this book.

The Revelation Space series. Lot of potential there for a few really good sci-fi films. Chasm City especially, stands on its own and doesn't need as much exposition as the others, would really make a great film if done well. Pisses me off seeing remakes of old films, like Total Recall, when there's a lot of amazing sci-fi novels out there just asking to be filmed.

This, agrees Rolf. If only film were original and creative, all it seems to be now is remakes of old films and those based off comic books, novels or video games, states Rolf.

The Gormenghast Trilogy.

BBC did a version, but I'd like to see, I dunno, Ridley Scott or Tim Burton do it up.

That would be awesome. And the books, especially the first, aren't too long. They could probably actually make it good and true to the book. The only difference is that they're going to have to add in a lot of dialogue, but that's ok and expected.

The worst offender ever:

I would love to see the Sharpe books redone. They had them on bbc quite awhile ago but with a major budget like HBO....it could be AWESOME.

OH and Naked Lunch - but a real book-to-film adaptation. The existing Naked Lunch movie is a joke imo - more the story of Burroughs writing the book than the book itself. But even then, it's still stupid - making the main character "Bill Lee" and all that bug powder and whatnot. What a dumbass movie.

If they were to translate the text of Naked Lunch into a video medium, it would be very long and expensive and banned everywhere, but man would it be worth it.

I think the Naked Lunch movie was pretty well done. I don't want them to attempt a true to the material adaption, since allot of the charm is in the prose, and I can't see it translating to a video median. Some books simply shouldn't get made into movies, and Naked Lunch in it's raw form tops the list.
