Default Websites you can text through?

Is there a website that will give you a number to send and receive texts over the internet as if that were your real cell phone number?

I know there are websites that will allow you to send texts but I'm looking for one that will give you a new number so you can use it to text through the site. (So, the person you are texting will not know your real phone number).

Probably google. Google will give you a free outbound digital phone, not sure about text, incoming, or a phone number.

Is there any way for someone to track your google voice number back to your actual number if it was ever connected?

There are a lot of website. Now it depends for what service u intend to use those numbers.

If you intend to use them for SHORT CODE(which I think you want , than there are not many. If you intend to use them for regular sms , there are tons.

You need a paid service or free service. U need USA number or worldwide?U need private number or shared number?

Free service is needed as is a USA number which can be either private or shared, it really doesn't matter.

What my friend is looking for is a way to text someone over the internet (not using their real cell phone number) to avoid constantly buying burners. My friend occasionally sells items on Craigslist that were illegally obtained. People who buy off Craigslist are weird. I guess they had a bunch of instances of no shows or something because they ALWAYS insist on communicating via telephone, either texting or speaking on the phone before they will meet you for the sale. It is like that with every single person. Buying burners really adds up. My friend prefers to text over speaking with the buyer on the phone because the conversation could be recorded and used as evidence against my friend.

Theres this app called Line 2 that allows you to text and call with a completly random number, but it lets you choose any area code from any state. lets say I am from new york but choose a area code in baltimore maryland, if you try to track my number, it will show up as baltimore, maryland.. it is free for 7 days, then you have to upgrade to keep using it, I think its 10 bucks a month after a 7 day trial. I used to to fuck with my friends, you get voicemail on it to. I tried deleting the app and redownloading it to get a new trial but that doesnt work.

Someone could buy a unlocked phone, and get prepaid sim cards from stores. Most of the sim cards include 10 starter minutes, or so many text messages. After you run out you could just throw away the card and use another.

AT&T- If you ask one of the employees at the store for a blank sim card to activate your phone, they will normally give you one free of charge. Don't say its for prepaid. Say you want to activate a new phone on your account later.

^You can also buy att sim cards very cheaply off fleabay. Any new sim card will activate, prepaid branded or not. Additionally, they have online activation that can be done through a proxy with fake details

T-Mobile- They will give out the sim cards, but to activate them on a prepaid plan you have to give a activation number only included in the $10 prepaid sim starter kit, or a prepaid phone . They will refuse to activate it without the activation number.

You can text to nearly any mobile phone in existence from ANY email account. Just need to know carrier. There are some websites out there that will lookup carriers by the first 3 numbers (not area code). When in doubt just try them all until you get a response.

This is from an old article (2008) but I think they all still work. If not, you'll find it on the major providers websites.
http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/email-to-sms/

Scroll down to the major carriers list. Most people use AT&T, t-mobile, boost mobile, or verizon. If in doubt, use a site to look up the carrier or ask the person. Or send one to all 4 and see if you get a response back. Once you do, you'll know which one to use.

Also, as for making up your own number, just create a throw-away email account that looks something like:
(xxx)xxx-xxxx@whatever.com

I'm not sure if you can use the special characters or not but most email providers allow just numbers I think. It'll look like a weird cross between a number and an email, most people will just write it off.

They can text back and it'll show up right in your inbox.

BE SURE TO USE A PROXY WHEN DOING THIS. AND POSSIBLY PRIVATE BROWSING ON A DISPOSABLE (IF IT COMES TO THAT) LAPTOP. MIGHT NOT HURT TO BE USING PUBLIC WI-FI EITHER. NEVER CAN BE TOO CAREFUL.
