You Canadian?

From recollection as long as the barrel is 18" breach or muzzle loading and is single shot it should be legal. The ammunition is where you might run into legal problems.

I should call the RCMP firearms place and ask... I've ashed all sorts of fucked up things so they should be used to it by now.

Also.

You'd have to have the internal barrel factory direct at 18" unless you had a restricted license for this.

I believe that owning a launcher is usually legal as it's only good as a club. I've heard you can buy the launcher at some surplus stores. I'd Goog that shit, but posting in this thread is as far as my nerve will take me.

You?

It's what goes inside it that gets you the trouble.

1. He's not a mod in W&C
2. Mods aren't supposed to lock threads just because the OP's question has been answered.

On topic: OP is obviously a troll, there's no such thing as a standard gun license in California. If the OP meant an ATF destructive device permit, then yes; you can get one for an RPG-7. Any launching device with a bore diameter over 12.5mm that's not been ruled to have a sporting purpose is considered a destructive device, which is why the M203 is also registered as a destructive device.

Fuck the ATF.

I recall Cheaper Than Dirt selling a deactivated RPG launcher like 5 months ago, but I haven't seen it in their catalog since then. Also, although it did come with the genuine optics and I THINK a dummy rocket as well, the tube was either messily, unaesthetically welded shut or even cut in half (don't recall which for sure), so it was hardly worth it anyway...Maybe if you had the welding/finishing skillz to rebuild it all nice and pretty, but even that may be illegal anyway. Hell, I'd still get one, but not if it was cut in half.

Is possible the the ATF/Gov. worry that someone could either source reloads without the launcher or even make some cruder rocket to fire. If they already had a launcher they'd be all set.

I imagine someone could even start off with model rocket engines. The warhead would be harder but if you could make a half decent 'head/rocket, you could also probably make the launcher too. Launcher is the easiest part: if Taliban had loads and no launchers they could make them.

Very illegal. Until 12/22/12 at least.

An activated RPG-7 would be classified as a destructive device in America. If the rear end were welded up you might could get ATF approval for it to be considered a muzzleloader.

Where you get into problems is with ammunition. IIRC, it's legal to make rockets (not missiles) with up to 4 ounces of fuel as long as there is no warhead. 1 ounce of fuel if there is a warhead, but I'm not sure what the restrictions are for warheads concerning what explosives can be used and how much.

This^

It is legally possible with some modifications that basically make it a "paper tiger". Destructive device paperwork is doable for the average non felony type citizen but its prohibitively expensive.

Why would you want to use such a liberal socialistic weapons such as that, and not the all-American Stinger?

But good point....Stingers are far superior in most all ways to the RPG-7. Better optics, better guidance, longer range, more powerful kaboomz0r....Just remember though, the RPG was designed as an antitank weapon, and it also performs well in that category. The Stinger, as we all know, is a MANPADS, firing SAMs (obviously), designed to be capable of tracking, catching up to and disabling modern fast jet fighter aircraft.
TL;DR - The Stinger and RPG were designed for two vastly different combat roles, and they do excel at these roles.

There's also cost to consider.

RPG = Poor mans plaything
Stingers = Saudi mans plaything

Who does it hurt to let people talk about the RPG 7, even if steros' question was stupid and could be googled in 4 seconds.
