You'd think so, but that thought would be based on a couple rather large assumptions, not the least of which is that the kid ever watches anything remotely educational rather than the shit that populates the television these days. Also assumes that schools are of high enough quality to ensure their education is being rounded out. You'll learn about the indians in History, but if you didn't pick up the full range of animals early on, then it's very undamnedlikely you'll know much about it unless you've been herp derping on that Madagascar shit.

I blame, somewhat hastily, without evidence or strong reasoning, the displacement of print media by digital. Video games, television and the internet deliver content so fast and in such volume, because it's useful to them and because they can, that it becomes necessary to prioritize. In more analogue times, to occupy the time that tv and outdoorsy stuff couldn't, kids might have read books like this one, which I have a copy of:



If they had, they probably still wouldn't know what a camel is, but they'd know what an osprey, a kite, a harrier and a goshawk are. They'd know about the American Civil War. They'd have a rudimentary grasp of gravity and how a rocket works. The capture of tigers would also be in their repertoire. They'd know there's a place called 'Bombay', where you may sell a tiger (!). They'd know that 'col', 'scree', 'arete' and 'corrie', to list a few, are... words.

Alright, they wouldn't remember much of that. But something would make an impact. Even vague impressions contribute to understanding.

Those kids are stupid man. I'm not sure how you can't know what a camel is, lions aren't native to Florida either but I'm pretty sure most people know what a lion is. Secondly, even if they didn't know what a camel is, they still should have been able to write a story about it.

A jabbermonkeynigger ride is obviously some sort of machine, or some sort of animal. Either way, writing a short story about it would not be difficult. Those kids have no excuse. Well, rather, the entire school system has no excuse. They clearly fail at education.

And further more, if the kids really couldn't write a story because they didn't know what a camel is, they should have raised their hands, and asked the teacher what a camel is. Those are some fucking stupid kids/schools. I'm glad I don't live in the land of bacon and retards.

just because someone might not NEED to know something doesn't mean they shouldn't or wouldn't know it christ, were you people never exposed to shit like 'A is for apple, B is for butterfly, C is for CAMEL...'?? I'm willing to bet every kid I know who is old enough to speak and process information knows what a fucking camel is. they don't have penguins in the wild in England but I knew what a penguin was because of Penguin bars. Zoos are the biggest thing, here. I mean, shit. Isn't the entire fucking point of a Zoo to see and learn about all different kinds of animals? What the fuck?

You can try to rationalize this all you like, and the people who are making a case defending these kids are doing a good job and I understand where they're coming from, I really do. With that said, there's still no excuse for not knowing what a fucking camel is. This isn't like, some exotic, obscure animal that know one has ever heard of before.
