The main problem with society is the academy, it breeds leftism and the 'intellectuals' are its champions, it does not offer anything productive that works (no intellectualist ever did). I personally prefer logic and common sense to popular opinion, social science (more like socialist science, am i rite?)- intellectualism and left-wing political correctness. There's quite a lot I'd like to touch on in regards to attacking the academy and intellectualism. I'm against much of the academic system, let alone the intellectualism that gets indoctrinated there. It is hardly your right to call your child your own when you send them to school 8 hours, 5 days a week and can easily have them taken away by social services if they believe you're a nazi and are raising your child with those views (I recall reading an article in late 2009 of 2 neo-nazi parents who had their children taken away for no reason other than their views); it isolates the child from the family.

Schools just happen to breed more stupidity and social awkwardness than anything else. Hitler was right when he said that in many cases, the material to be learned in the various subjects is so swollen that only a fraction of it remains in the head of the individual pupil, and only a fraction of this abundance can find application, while on the other hand it is not adequate for the man working and earning his living in a definite field. School should start at 8am in the morning and end at 12pm.

There's tons of other stuff but it'll end up in a huge rant that can do much better than a thread in PEOO. It's my opinion that for there to be any shred of decency and lack of annoying things in society, its youth must be intelligent and full of character and spirit, but fiercely anti-intellectual. Most children and youth hate school at the core anyway, they largely go to socialize, it is jsut a shame that they become 'oversocialized'. It's been an ambition of mine for a while to open a youth club later down the line.

I haven't started that PFD yet (I make it a rule to finish one book before I begin another - holy shit, somehow that sounded like something ArmsMerchant would say). But is it only attacking the educational system? I've hated that for years, starting with the mentality of "omg school sucks and I don't want to go! " to "Hey, I've learned more about math and chemistry in a couple of weeks outside of school than I did in 12 years. What the fuck is wrong with our shitty educational system?".

I enjoy learning - it's something to eat up the time before I'm dead. I loathe school though. There are so many problems with it, to the shitty students, to the "grades" ("You're in the tenth grade now - that means you should have the same intellectual abilities as everybody else your age!") to the fucking (and this is the biggest one) horrible teaching methods. Thanks for writing that mathematical formula on the board for me, now I completely understand what I'm doing, you fucking useless prick. Teachers are not underpaid. They should stop bringing that shit up.

Political correctness and its intellectual priesthood are everywhere. It's bad enough in complusory education, let alone higher education. It's pretty much the same IN MOST OTHER COURSES. I'd argue that most people are better off not going to school today because it's expensive and most kids don't major in something hard that will get them a job, they major in shit like communications and business so they can get a degree because they've been told it's important to get the piece of paper. That shit made sense 30 years ago but has long since become unreasonable.

Any diploma will do that; you don't need an petroleum engineering degree to work in the oilfield. It's not about an education. And it certainly isn't about what is the "better" degree in someone's opinion. It's about what you want to do with your life ultimately, and what degree will help you reach those goals.

Most people get a degree just to get the degree with no thought as to what to do after that. People get degrees because they are easier than other degrees, not because they have a passion for them and want to work in these fields.
Most math heavy degrees like chem and engineering will get you a better job upon completion, because they are skills that more people need then have. Remember when america was freaking out because the soviets and japanese had more, better math and science students and it was going to make them more powerful? It turned out to be largely overhyped by the media of those nations, but the fact remains, we've never had a panic of "The Japanese have more kids in their art history programs, better art historians than we're turning out now, the future is theirs!"
Kids who don't know what they want to do should be encouraged more in the direction of math and science, because it affords you more options. Instead schools push such students into liberal arts and communications and when they graduate with their 150k pieces of paper, they have no idea how to support themselves because no one is hiring them.

Again if you have a passion for a certain subject, and are going to work in that field no matter what and work hard to get your foot in the door and be that one in a million success story of a journalism major who makes it, good for you. 99% of people with communications degrees got it because they didn't want to do math.
