Ammo
What gun out of your collections costs the most to shoot? I thought my 45 acp was expensive until I bought a 5-7. I paid like 230 for 500 rounds which where all burned through but the 5-7 runs me a box of 50 for 22-24 at a retail store.

Re: Ammo
If I didn't handload I wouldn't be able to shoot my AR15s regularly.
Prices on .223 are ridiculous, but I can train with 75gr BTHPs for as much as it would cost to buy steel cased Tula garbage at Walmart only because I reload.

Re: Ammo
M1 Garand.
Even buying Korean or Turkish surplus 30-06, it's still almost 50 cents a round.
I'm going to have to start reloading.

bullshit
I can buy a 20 case at walmart for $7
yes it's low velocity garbage and I have to coat it for it to feed right but it still shoots
My 8mm mauser is expensive as fuck. First of all it's difficult to find stores that actually sell it and when I do it runs for $30 for a pack of 10. I'm afraid to shoot my M24/47 because it's from WW2 and could potentially explode so I just keep it wrapped in a gun case in my garage for novelty.
My carbon fiber bow arrows are $10 each but they are easily reusable so that's not really an issue.

For what 60 rounds of Tula garbage costs you I can reload 100 full power 55gr softpoints that hold about 2.5 MOA out of a 16" carbine.
You're paying too much for what you get.

Hand loading from what I've heard is about half of cost you buy it for. The guy at the range says a box of .45 costs him about 7 bucks to make . It's prolly better than the federal shit I shoot

Re: Ammo
I know hand loading is cheaper but I don't think that's the point of this thread. The point is the cost of store bought ammo yes?

Using range pick up brass I can load 100 rounds of .45 defensive ammo for no more than $30.
You need to take it up, especially shooting some of the calibers you do.

Terrible price. You guys should jump on this deal, prices aren't coming down (probably, there could be something I don't know or haven't thought of).
http://palmettostatearmory.com/index...nc-plated.html
Oh, they increased the price $5.

Re: Ammo
7.62x39mm is currently running around $2 per round in my country.
.357 Magnum would be next at around $1 per round.

Re: Ammo
I am out of touch with ammo prices because I reload almost everything I shoot. If I didn't reload I surely would not have a 6.5x47 Lapua. It is a proprietary round and is $62 for a box of 20. Hell the bare brass is $1 a round.

I just found it kind of funny that you could theoretically end a mans life for 1 dollar.

Yeah I and a buddy of mine reload so we trade off and pass along ideas and secrets.
Still though they're as fun as they are expensive... Nothing quite like the feeling of sending a 200 grain copper encased load of hot leaded death downrange.

Re: Ammo
Single shot break action.... Shoots smoother than a babies diarrhea and hits your shoulder like the feathered touch of an angels wings.
Gunna put a scope on it at some eventual time so it'll be a railroad spike driver.
Funny thing about when I first bought it, My boss was at the auction with me and:
Boss man:
"You bought another shotgun?"
Me:
"Nope" *huge shit eaten ear to ear grin*
Boss man:
"It's got to be a shotgun" *odd look*
Me:
"It's a 45-70"
Boss man:
"What the hell is that?"
Me:
"It's a big gun"
Boss man:
"What would you shoot with something like that?"
Me:
"Anything I want" <-- (this face)
Boss man:
*gives me a weird look and stops talking to me*
Me:
Dunno why but I got a raise soon after that.

An old computer and possibly some green shooters shoulders and a few eardrums.
And I think the raise came from me being bat shit insane and well armed.

Re: Ammo
The most expensive round I shoot is 44 magnum. It's eighty-cents per round, if I buy locally.
I reload it for moderately cheap. Maybe fifty-cents a round, but each time I reload the brass, it decreases the base cost.
If you reload in a common enough round, you can just pick up brass for free at most ranges. This is unfortunately not the case with 44 special or magnum.

Re: Ammo
I hate that i don't get my rounds paid for anymore. I also miss righting off my membership and rounds as business expenses. But the most expensive caliber i've ever owned was .338 lapua mag.
4-5 dollars a round for decent ammo, 2 dollars for shit.
