"We have made it very clear that we are going to continue to defend ourselves," the US defense secretary said during a conference in India on Wednesday.

Panetta also dismissed suggestions that the strikes could violate Pakistan's sovereignty.

"This is about our sovereignty as well," he added.

On Tuesday, Pakistan's Foreign Ministry summoned the US Charge d'affaires Richard Hoagland over Washington’s continued assassination drone attacks in the country.

The move came following a recent hike in the number of the unauthorized air attacks, which Pakistan has repeatedly criticized as counter-productive.

Washington claims its drone strikes target militants, though casualty figures clearly indicate that Pakistani civilians are the main victims of the non-UN-sanctioned attacks.

More than 150 people have died in 20 drone attacks in Pakistan's northwest tribal region since the beginning of this year.

Pakistan-US relations experienced particularly serious strains in 2011 after a CIA contractor killed two Pakistanis and a US team infiltrated the Pakistani territory under the pretext of killing al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden.

This was topped by US air strikes in November which killed 24 Pakistani soldiers at two army outposts on the Afghan border.

The last incident prompted Islamabad to shut down supply routes to US-led foreign military forces in Afghanistan.

The UN uses the US military for a large portion of its operations and logistical support. If the UN tried to bend the US over, all they have to do is cut funding and military support from the organisation, and then shut down any/all UN-owned facilities in the continental US and any/all territories.

Blind Carpet bombing with 250,000 tons of ordinance is not comparable to a drone that conducted surveillance, gone through procedures of approval (which takes into account collateral damage risk vs reward), and fires a single missile at a high value target.

You're right, but think about how awesome it must be up top. Bunch of big egos with guns. Consider the following, if any other organisation were killing hundreds and hundreds of civilians as a by-product of killing alleged terrorist leaders, with no trial and no oversight, would they be classed as terrorists? Of course they fucking would. Obama's presided over hundreds/thousands of civilian deaths in the middle east, but it barely gets a mention because the idiots are too caught up in election year puppet show drama to care. The only person running suggesting an alternative strategy i.e. "stop killing innocent people" is laughed out of town by people like you because he also has some unorthodox views about the fed and the gold standard.

I'd like you to imagine if your loved ones got blown up and killed because they happened to be in the same building as a potential terrorist. Oh boy I bet you'd be laughing then. That is never going to happen. The U.N. is run by the same money that controls D.C., London, Paris, Munich, Tokyo, Beijing, Canberra, Madrid, Lisbon, Rome, Athens, Moscow and any other major capital in the world. Placing those types of sanctions on the largest consumer market in their pocket would put a big hole in their pocket.
