The GB / USA metric system is an epic fail...
The GB / USA metric system is an epic fail...
Pounds. Who teh hell measures weight in British currency? So weird.
AM/PM. Why not just use the 24-hour system, huh? What's up with that, Americans? You can save letters by saying that it's 18:07 instead of saying it's 6:07 PM. lol
Fahrenheit. Don't even get me started on the temperature system! 5/9 -32 degrees, I mean wtf, IT'S NOT EVEN LINEAR, FFS!
Inches. Who the hell measures their penis size in inches??? If you say "I've got an 8-inch penis", it sounds a lot less than saying "I've got a 20-centimeter penis".
The brits also have cars driving on the wrong side and believe it to be something normal and good. What worse can happen than being drunk and driving on the wrong side of the road?
Thanks god there is still Europe where people have at least normal metric standards.

imperial temperature is actually more linear and more precise than the metric. With metric you only have 100 increments between freezing and boiling. With imperial you have almost 180 increments. That's almost twice the precision
imperial is superior in temp reading and in confusing european people with our fractions. Metric is better for everything else though

Are you basically suggesting that the brits are right and the whole world is wrong?

oh and what the fuck do you want me to say "oh i weight 13 stone and an arm" or some faggy euro shit? No, I weigh 190 pounds. Boom. all you gotta say. We don't say "PM" and "AM", people just inherently fucking know if its morning or evening (text is different, but get over it).
You know what? Fuck you. Fuck you, we'll do what we want. We're the fuckers with the guns, you can go have fun being gay in sweden or some shit.

I am saying the fahrenheit scale is a more linear and precise way to measure temperature

the brits aren't ones to complain when we add unnecessary shit to our terminology
they're the ones who gotta add a 'u' in everything that ends with an 'or' sound.

Re: The GB / USA metric system is an epic fail...
You see to misunderstood.
You talk about the 'metric system', and start complaining about imperial measurements. The whole thing your bitching about is that the metric system isn't uniformly used, which seems to be the opposite of your title.
And yeah, I agree. The metric system is much better. The inconsistencies and arbitrary nature of the imperial system is pretty stupid, and global standardisation does make way more sense.

Actually it is linear. Slope of 5/9 and vertical intercept of -32. If you mean it doesnt intercept at 0, youll get the same problem if you look at it from the other perspective. If anything, kelvin is the most suitable commonly used temperature unit, but even that is based on water which is pretty crappy. In fact, even most of the metric system is based on water. Still, i do think most of the metric system is better to use, but its not to difficult to convert. People should just use what everyone else around them is using, unless its science though.
With that being said, I use imperial for certain things, as do most people in metric countries: TV screens, disc sizes and lots of tools are all still measured in imperial due to convention, and most imperial users use calories, which uses metric units.

Re: The GB / USA metric system is an epic fail...
Gotta admit that whilst a lot of the time I think and work in Imperial out of habit, Metric is far superior scientifically as it 'fits well' with scientific notation.
I'm pretty sure there's a shitty image comparing the 'retardedness' of Imperial to the sense of metric but it's really down to age in the UK. People who remember Imperial use it yet most people who learn and understand metric use it instead.
But since this is basically a troll thread anyway, MM/DD/YYYY is fucking retarded.

Re: The GB / USA metric system is an epic fail...
^ Proots, I came here to say this.
In the UK, Imperial units are only used in informal settings - e.g. bodily height and weight are roughly stated in feet and inches and stones respectively, but a doctor would always measure you in millimetres and kg. Drinks are usually measured in litres, except for the 'pint' (that is, a pint of beer or milk). Food and recipes are increasingly measured in grams; in fact, you hardly ever see recipes asking for ounces any more. You might casually state that your house is about two-hundred yards down the road, or your dick is about six inches long, but if you were being any more precise, then generally you'd use metric measurements.
For any kind of detailed or professional work, distances and dimensions are always in metres (two exceptions are in traditional domestic building and joinery (plywood still comes in 8x4 sheets, for example) whereby imperial and metric are used alongside each other, and driving distances which are in miles (but increasingly often stated secondarily in kilometres too)). Weight is always in grams, temperature is always in celcius, volume always in litres.

There's a very good reason for this.
Driving on the right hand side significantly increases the chance of tornadoes.
It's why Britain is very rarely effected by them; we make the air spin the correct way.

The only proper way to measure temperature is Kelvin.

I don't know if that makes it superior though. What if I established an extremely convoluted system with 181 degrees of separation? Would that be superior? Besides, you can express temperature just about equally as accurate and precise assuming the domain isn't bound by whole numbers
Temperature should be measured in kelvin and FORCE in newtons

i thought that it was reagan's fault that you don't measure everything in ml/cm/etc.
didn't he reverse the whole cultural change, back into imperial?
