Has there ever been a truly great car that was designed by a woman?

Thread is title. I hate to do that but I did, was just thinking about it today and it seems like I've never heard of a car-designing woman.

Cars have their own aesthetic that I don't think most women grasp. I haven't met one decent looking straight chick who likes the right cars for the correct reasons.

For something more concrete though, think of the man:woman ratio in say... a high end engineering course. Hell, just think of how many dudes you know that like cars.

I know ONE hot chick who went to school for engineering and programming. One of the best all around artists I know is a decent looking 19 year old girl. Does that mean she can design me a cool concept? Not at all, and she 'likes' cars.

^ Uzi's got it half-right. It's not that women can't design/engineer cars, it's that (generally speaking) they don't - for reasons into which I won't go (protip - it's not because they can't).

There were about 5 women on my Automotive Design BA course; I think two of them are in employment at design consultancies - one as an ideation sketcher in Japan, one as a clay modeller for a transport/vehicle design consultancy in the Midlands (UK). Another one got work experience in the UK but I don't know if she got a job.

To say that women don't grasp the aesthetics of cars is bullshit. There are plenty of women product designers who understand form and aesthetics just as well as men do. Men only appear to 'get it' because it's culturally ingrained into what it means to be a man. In the 1900s/1910s there were loads of female racing drivers and female pilots - this was before cars and planes became 'a man thing'.

And if you mean design from a more technical standpoint, e.g. motor design, suspension design, structural design, blablabla, I'm sure plenty of teams have females in them. Less then men probably only because most engineering courses have a predominantly male student base.
