Post Things That Could Make The Economic Situation Worse
Particularly things that could lead to mass, ah, demonstrations by upset people.
Events that will or may occur in the future.

700,000 people in the US may no longer be eligible for unemployment benefits by August. This could really add fuel to the occupy movement.

Re: Post Things That Could Make The Economic Situation Worse
Good thread.
The upcoming week could be a rough one. Bad news about Spain or Greece will have a pretty substantial effect in the USA and in eastern Asia. The "Occupy" types seem rather disillusioned now that Scott Walker is officially the Governor of Wisconsin, and that it's looking as though President Obama will probably not be re-elected. So they may just go off and have themselves another tantrum, especially if big things happen in Spain or Greece.
FWIW, I really don't see the whole "economic collapse" thing as "bad." I read an article the other day about the shift back to "ruralism" in Greece. I guess I'm the only one here who sees the "rural" life as superior to the "non-rural" life. I mean real rural life, as in the kind that people lived 700 years ago. Of course, I don't want this to happen to everyone, because they would be bad for the environment, but I would like to see "the lights go out," so to speak, if you catch my lingo.

Re: Post Things That Could Make The Economic Situation Worse
I often mail one of my family members 68 pound lead plates with his chemicals sent priority mail.
If you look ont he flat rate envelopes, as long as it's under 70lb the price is the same (4.60$+ .80 tracking + 2$ insurance on my 200$ lead plate). Because of teh tracking and the insurance, some man is stuck gonig slow as fuck because he has to carry around this 70lb lead plate that he only got 5$ to carry. If he gets annoyed and chucks it, I go buy another 200$ plate and continue after making the government pay my insurance for loss or damage.

Re: Post Things That Could Make The Economic Situation Worse
Oh and if you everh ave to fill out a government document, I break open pens and spill the ink in the box that says DO NOT WRITE IN THIS BOX because I know some desk worker has to take 20-30 minutes to re-transcribe all my data into a new sheet/they can't blame you for the pen breaking.
Cost these fuckers money, never plead guilty, take it to trial all the better, don't pay back jails/buildings of incarceration.

The dollar no longer being the reserve currency. Really though, mainly the loss of confidence in the currency (any currency for that matter). You know our faith in the dollar is bad when you see this kinna thing going on...

The government giving away taxpayer money to ANY privately owned business.
Not actually having any real currency, it all being controlled by an organization masked as and backed by our government.
Oh wait.

Re: Post Things That Could Make The Economic Situation Worse
Just a few random things of the top of my head:
-Israel attacks Iran's nuclear facilities, Iran retaliates. This causes oil prices to spike dramatically.
-The EuroZone undergoes a partial, or full (unlikely) collapse.
-A revolution occurs in Saudi Arabia (very unlikely). The ramifications are obvious.

Nissan's Smyrna, TN plant is expanding for the Leaf. Big expansion, too.
Amazon is building fulfillment centers in Murfreesboro, TN and Lebanon, TN.
Volkswagen is up to something in Chattanooga, TN. Can't remember what those crazy krauts are doing, but it's something good.
Nashville will be building a Dolly Parton water park within a year or two. Plus, construction (and other business, honestly) is usually pretty solid in Nashville. They stay on some Metropolitan shit. Built a new Greyhound terminal n errthang. Poppin' poppin', nah meen?
I could probably continue if I picked up a newspaper...

Re: Post Things That Could Make The Economic Situation Worse
Unemployment benefits are collected on an individual basis, but the benefits themselves are redeemed by multiple people. For example, a man might collect unemployment benefits to pay the bills on a house that has five occupants, and he may use these benefits to help pay for food. And if those five people are unable to reap unemployment benefits it means they are going to go out looking to others for help. What you're going to have is a whole lot of needy people and a whole lot of people who can't help them. If we assume that loss of unemployment benefit has a substantial effect on 10 people that means that 7,000,000 Americans will be afflicted. Let's just say that you have 500,000 in Los Angeles, 500,000 in Chicago, 500,000 in Houston, 500,000 in New York City, 500,000 in Miami, etc etc etc. 500,000 very angry people with rifles who will shoot anything that moves. Coming for your ass! Marching out in to the suburbs and the rural towns! These are not Occupy Wall Street types. These are just ordinary American riflemen with nothing to lose.

Yeah, but take into account that this is only the amount estimated that will lose benefits by August and that only a certain percentage of the population is normally in the labor force (children, retired, disabled).

This is nothing more than speculation on my part, but...
I think the economy would sink after the presidential election. With all these national and international problems we have going on, it seems like we are delaying the inevitable.

Re: Post Things That Could Make The Economic Situation Worse
Oh, right, it seems the Iran war was postponed until after the elections. I believe they held back sanctions for 6 months withing the last few months. Then again, with how much of a shitstorm it could cause with China, Russia, and I don't know who else, they may not be planning something full scale.
I focus on economic and some sociological theory, hardly at all on relationships between countries.

Lol I like how 7m just lose their unemployment and all go ape shit instead of getting a job. Would watch the movie if Kevin Costner stars as Jim "fucks latinos" Carrey, and Jackie Chan as his cameraman/sidekick.
Also, George Clooney as HampTheToker.

The economy isn't that simple. You can't really think 7 million people can just up and "get a job". They're on unemployment because they lost their jobs, and those jobs aren't coming back.

It all depends on your what your definition of the word "is" is.
No, according to recent trends quoted in the mainstream media, 'on' is merely a differential proposition with no validity in the financial construct.
By your use of the word 'the', you relate an air of permanence to a situation that can at best, be described as transient, perhaps even singular. I strenuously disagree to agree with this proposition or lack thereof.
Wrong, wrong wrong. By conjugating up and swing, you clearly show a lack of faith in the first, and confer validity to the inevitability of the second.
The fallacy of this statement (html in root, but applied to the whole as a form of punctuation) is obvious to everyone who has ever posted in 'Der Politik'.
No thread can end without at least one extended and superfluous muti-quote reply.
