I thought it was garbage but it was awesome/thought it was awesome but was garbage...
"I thought it was garbage, but it was awesome..." kind of movie experience.
Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle (2004)
I thought it was another unfunny and demented comedy filled with gross jokes. I postponed watching the movie for 9 years. Saw it only yesterday.
On the contrary this was class A comedy, hilarious and intelligent, the writing had real wit. It is going to be one of those cult comedies that people watch over and over again.

I thought it would be another masterpiece of sci-fi. I even watched the torrent copy before going to the cinema.
On the contrary it was one of the most disgustingly boring and annoying trash flicks I have ever seen. No plot, no dialogues, no directing. It become one of the most hated big budget flicks in moviemaking history.

I thought The Matrix sequels and the Star Wars prequels were going to be mindblowingly awesome. *sigh* Fucking Wachowski Bros and Lucas are the same breed.

The threads are, quite literally, "movies I thought were gonna be bad but were good" and "movies I thought were gonna be good but were bad"; there's absolutely no reason why you can't house this discussions in one thread.

I started watching Clueless (details, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clueless_(film)), after getting it by accident--the cassette was in a box that said Law and Order. Main reason I even gave it a chance was because Dan Hedaya (sp?) had a supporting role, and ended up enjoying the thing.
Now Error can welcome me to 1995.

I really forced myself to LOVE the "Phantom Menace" when it came out, but it was just the euphoria of having seen a BRAND NEW Star Wars film after more that 20 years. Now, the movie is just unwatchable and cringe-worthy.

I remember watching that movie with my girlfriend at the time and I thought I was gonna hate it but it was actually really funny and I enjoyed it a good bit.
