Why did white people discover the rest of the world's cultures. Why not the Chinese, or the Arabs? Everybody agrees white people are special. Some think we are special good, others that we are special bad.

Would the Chinese or Arabs have treated the new world the same way white people treated it? Better? Worse? What if the Chinese had sailed around the world and discovered Europe?

Europeans were pushed to colonize and explore because they needed spices to preserve/not make their putrid food taste as bad, essentially. They were looking for direct routes to the Spice Islands to cut out the Arab middlemen, and they wound up in the Americas, which they originally thought was China/Japan/Indonesia.

Arabs also explored a lot of the African interior and did extensive writings about the cultures they encountered, and had been trading salt/slaves/gold/ivory with various East/West African empires and kingdoms long before the Europeans set foot there.

For the Chinese, it was the fact that Chinese culture was largely monolithic and heavily influenced by Confucianism that was inward focused and looked down on the outside world of barbarians. Zheng-He sailed as far as East Africa and Arabia, but his expeditions were shut down due to political rivalries and a fear of corrupting influence from contact with the outside world.

The Arabs were for a long time more advanced than Europeans (largely due to being cultural inheritors of the Persians), it wasn't until the Mongol invasions (that decimated Asia and Eastern Europe, while leaving Catholic Europe relatively unscathed) and the widespread destruction of people and cities that the Islamic world declined significantly. A large reason for Western advancement were several reasons; first they were unscathed by the destruction and depopulation caused by the Mongol invasions. Second, Europe was not one monolithic society that was safe from outside threats, instead it was small nations endlessly fighting with each other for power and influence, which led to continuous technological advancement.

Where did I say anything anti European? Sounds like someone has an anti-Tacho bias.

Either way, they wanted to figure out some way to get an advantage in the spice trade, and that's what lead them to stagger into the Caribbean and eventually the rest of the Americas.

The Chinese did not discover America, but Kennewick man (remains discovered in central Washington state) is physically identical to the Mongoloid/plaeolithic Caucasoid hybrids that inhabit the Japanese islands and apparently there is new genetic evidence suggesting that he is related to them, not that I put a great deal of faith in it. So a "Japanese" man did make it to the Americas before the Europeans, taking the harder route (trans-pacific or trans-Bering) and going much father and by simply walking, jumping or paddling, without any civilized tools of any kind. Furthermore, North Africa and the "middle east" are Europe. People should stop referring to these places as if they are not a part of Europe, because they always have been. It was only until very recently (60-80 years ago) that the definition of "Europe" was changed so as to exclude anyone who was not from this arbitrary cross-section of the extreme northwestern part of the eastern hemisphere. Europe begins in Norway and stretches all the way out as far as eastern Pakistan. It also stretches very far in to north and eastern Africa. The people who live in this region are Europeans.
