Fuck todays cellphones... As if you need a fingerprint scanner, uv lamp, voice distorter, fog machine, laser level, time machine, and cheese grater ect in your pocket.
I hate these faggots out in public with their phones, thinking their the shit because their phone has an app that makes a whipping sound when you flick it or some homo shit like that.

Re: Android Device Bad Ideas APPS? Whats on your phone?
I have a rooted Huawei Ascend II, but don't have that many apps. I deleted a bunch of the bloatware. I mainly just use it to get the full versions of otherwise trial apps.
Tune In Radio Full
Madden 12
Police Scanner app
I forget what else. I think the MLB app, which was like 15 bucks lol.
What would be the benefit of putting linux on your phone?

Android is a Linux-based operating system for mobile devices
|
So-> the question should be-> "What would the benefit of installing another linux distro on a phone?"
The GUI, for 1, different tools that aren't native to android, a true desktop experience, or a true command line interface - all depends on your intentions and preferences... Maybe you just want another project porting, and writing drivers.
IF all you want are the full of apk's, there are plenty of places on the net for them. mobilism is a great starting spot

Re: Android Device Bad Ideas APPS? Whats on your phone?
Ah. I see. Well I only ever experimented with Ubuntu, and Back Track 5 for WEP cracking (I could never figure out WPA), and I suppose Android unbeknownst to me. Thanks for the helpful answer.
I usually use SnappzMarket to get the apps I want, or just do a quick google search of "such and such.apk"

Is there a way to surf Tor on my stratoshere?
God Damn I miss that!
Reason being is that I've been away from home for like the past 4 months, just got my android and its pretty much the only thing I use to surf the web and whatnot. TIA

Yeah - this. Also there are some good roms to accommodate that tool! I hear the cyanogen rome have great integration.

Re: Android Device Bad Ideas APPS? Whats on your phone?
I've noticed that rom development has slowed down for many devices. Third party support for many of these devices is odd to say the least.
I have a pretty decent phone. It isn't high end, but it ain't cheap either. You would figure that it would have at least decent support from amateur developers, but it doesn't really. There are less than a handful of roms available and none of them are very impressive...at least not to me.
My sister, on the other hand, has a shitty little LG Optimus S with tons of dev support. It still doesn't outperform my HTC Evo Design on stock Gingerbread, though. I've seen other good phones have crap support and vice versa.
Maybe, I just need to learn to build my own roms from Android source code...I was preparing to do so when my son hit the terriblest of 2's and made it next to impossible for me to find the time.

Re: Android Device Bad Ideas APPS? Whats on your phone?
The development has shifted towards the GSM devices as they are more of them out there. CDMA devices are, well, CDMA...
The Rom's are mostly cut and paste. Then fix the issues and debug with log cat. I was a Dev for some of the old Windows Devices. MDA, SDA, Titan etc.
Not that hard. Now compiling an AOSP/ AOKP Rom is a little more trouble. All the drivers and Bluetooth issues. Man..

Yeah...
Personally, if I ever decide to slap my name on a rom that's the only way I'll do it. Anyone can use an online kitchen, and kitchen software isn't much more difficult. If I intend to dedicate time and effort into something that others will use, it's got to have more going for it than cheap bells and whistles, na meen?
Besides, some of the hardc0re devs do profit decently from their work. That's the kind of quality work I would like to put my name on if I could make the time for it.

Heres a little more on IMEI http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interna...pment_Identity
LOTS of great features in those little phones. They look like a Beater but have the advanced privacy features in there all in one! Could be a very lucrative investment.

Re: Android Device Bad Ideas APPS? Whats on your phone?
This has probably been said but I dont think it's a good idea to carry a cell phone around with you all the time.
They can track you with it. (Even if it's a prepaid, if you use it to talk to people you know they will figure out who you are).
If you just need to communicate, get a prepaid credit card in someone elses name
http://www.mysecretaryusa.com/numserv/ +skype (using someone elses credit card).
skype to skype they aren't even supposed to be able to listen in on. If they can they wouldn't admit it so they couldn't use it against you in court, because if they admitted they could listen it could mess with stuff a lot bigger than what you're doing probably.

Re: Android Device Bad Ideas APPS? Whats on your phone?
I have the BIN/ you can use any samsung repair tool to flash it
NSPRO, etc...
I cant tell you if they are legit or not. I haven't done direct business with them.
BUT I have flashed the bin and used a few devices myself.

Proxy Browser is useful.
I use it to visit blocked websites when on public WiFi like McDonald's or at the hospital or wherever. The UI could be better, but it works nonetheless.
Ninja edit: Dolphin Browser allows you to set up a proxy from within the app itself, so that's useful if you use Dolphin.

I feel like the IMEI/SIM swap tethered to something like Google Voice on a rooted Samsung Note II (1.4ghz quad+2GB ram+5" screen) bought with cash, backtrack 5 would basically be the ultimate untraceable mobile.

Yeah, or you could just buy a netbook and a cheap burner, but I certainly agree with you.

Re: Android Device Bad Ideas APPS? Whats on your phone?
Something reusable I feel could be incredibly effective. Sure, I can keep my contacts/texts/data on a thumb drive and switch from netbooks, but with something that can physically change the IMEI, all I need is a hundred SIMs and I keep my rig forever, AND it fits in my pocket. That's a dream I've never been able to realize. Hopefully Sky can inform me of the details on this spoofer.

Re: Android Device Bad Ideas APPS? Whats on your phone?
It is firmware/ custom coded for this application specifically.
You need a FLASHER/ Service box for SAMSUNG. Any of the normal ones you can buy off the net work. Furious Teams Box, NSPRO, Hawk?, any of the flashers.
ALso, you need the custom .BIN file that I have to flash to it. Then it all works flawlessly.
I picked up the file for ~$500 and you can get the phones off the net for ~$50 each. Ebay and other places have them. No hardware mods or anything. It is all software.
It is not the initial cost of the file. It is the potential for ANY of the phones to be your phone now. These phones sell well to unscrupulous characters, security conscience people, techy geeks, 1 uppers, reporters, dignitaries, terorists...
