The only bug I've encountered is that if you start talking to an NPC while you're moving, the footsteps/walking sound keeps playing through the whole conversation. I'm not denying this game is imperfect, but you're the second person I know whose said the game is buggy as shit and I'm just not seeing it. Care to give some examples you ran into?
Maybe the bugs have been patched since you last played. That's my working theory at least. I know they released another patch a couple weeks ago, but I didn't notice any bugs with the previous version either.
Final Fantasy Tactics? Everyone talks about 7, but Tactics had way better storytelling if you ask me. Fucking Betrayal after betrayal! Ramza is the fucking little engine that could.

I thought that Parasite Eve was a pretty amazing game for it's time. I guess it was lost amongst a plethora of other fucking awesome titles from the once-great Squaresoft such as Final Fantasy 7/8 and Xenogears. I think a lot of people just wanted to play another Final Fantasy game and as such, disregarded it completely.
It's still a great game though. I loved the weapon customisation system and the characters were pretty well developed for what was basically a survival horror game. The graphics at the time were amazing and as with all Squaresoft games of that era the soundtrack was spot-on as well.
I'm not sure how successful it was commercially as it was never released here, I had to play it on a modchipped PSX. Still the total lack of a PAL release and the lack of fanboy fappage-time compared to FF7/8 and other Squaresoft releases makes it seem unheralded to me.
Also I'm comparing it to RPGs as it was made by the same developer, not because it is the same genre. It was also overlooked as a survival horror even though it combines elements of the two, IMO, very successfully.

I think PE was rather popular. Many of the current generation of scientists in biology/neuroscience and related sciences were inspired by that game.
Really atmospheric. Perfect Christmas game if you ask me.
Edit: and have you seen the original Japanese movie "Parasite Eve"? It's pretty bad.
I wasn't sure of it's success as it was never releases here. Only the sequel was; it bombed.
Funny you should mention the scientists thing though. I started studying for a biology degree only last year and am hoping to go into molecular biology. A lot of my interest in the subject was due to that game. I still get fond memories whenever I study the electron transport chain or Lynn Margulis' theory of endosymbiosis, which the game was loosely based upon.
Yeah that intro was great, loved the theme music as well. It was also good to see a skinny white chick as a NY detective instead of the usual massive chain-smoking hard boiled nigger. Shame her character was pretty much destroyed in Third Birthday.
I've not seen the film as I heard it was shit. Would like to read the book though.

I played this game BEFORE everybody knew of its existence. Silicon Knights needs to make a sequel, since it's their most requested title.
Nobody cares that "you liked it first" and you're a faggot for thinking it's relevant in the slightest. Also this is about unheralded games - if everybody knows about it, it's not unheralded.
vastly superior to goldeneye in just about every conceivable way, and yet when people see it sitting near my n64 they all ask "what the fuck is that? wheres goldeneye?"

I've been getting into this game since i pretty much played the shit out of goldeneye. It's pretty awesome and the levels are really cool. I still haven't finished it because swimming around in that submarine was pissing me the fuck off. And there's no auto-aim on 007 mode? I feel like that would be hard as fuck, i've only done it on secret agent so far. Overall yea i think it's a pretty fun game.

Oh. Yeah man, they resolved all of that. The story is still very WTF and that's made even worse by the garbled English, but you can still get the gist of it. I haven't played very far though, so I can't really say shit - it might all come together in a at least semi-understandable way.
I'd hate to have played it so soon after release. Especially if it was that bad. I've made it to level 20 or so without a hitch.
