Well .... let me give you some background. You see .... I live in a city. I dont live in the woods or in the desert, of sand or snow.
So as SS said a few posts earlier ..... the ''camos'' that most probably work are likely to be plain civvy cloths. TBH, if S ever HTF, these are what my BDU are going to be :
[1] Cheap black jeans and black long sleeve sweater and a black duck billed caps. Black shoes and ski mask are on the options too. These are mainly for nite ops, getting supplies, guarding duties, etc.
[2] Technicians gray overall. Light gray because gray happens to be the most common color for asphalt and cement sidewalk. If I want to go extreme I can just apply cement on my face and back of my hands.
So no, real, mil-spec, mil-designed camos won't work for me and their overpriced anyway, and wearing real MCCUU in SHTF situation is just like wearing a 3000 dollar suit in a back alley in a very bad neighborhood.
It screams your filthy rich, have an impressive stash of gun/ammo/food supplies bunkered somewhere, and that's just asking to be stalked, robbed and get your ass gang raped.
Anyway, the topic of this thread are about the enthusiasm we have about camos. And its just that I like camo patern because they seemed random .....
and I like bright colors so when I sees one, I buy.

Fair do's lol.
Don't wear black, wear dark grey, navy, dark brown, or dark green. Black stands out in the dark, especially if the moon is out, or if you've got something of a different colour to black behind you (i.e. where the 'enemy's' line of sight has you stood in front of something that contrasts black).
I also read somewhere that if you need to hide from thermal imaging cameras (which will probably never happen), hide behind a sheet of glass.
Glass reflects IR radiation, which is what the camera detects, and hence they can't see through it without a light (however you will -obviously- need to hide behind a sofa or some other object if they have searchligths).
There are also different types of fabrics, or spray paints you can use for/on your clothing, which lower the IR radiation emissivity. You will appear to be a similar temperature to your surroundings because of the way you emit the radiation, even though you are not.
I think the Taliban use thick wool blankets to hide under when under surveillance.
The more you know.

When you move in the dark, you sneak from shadows to shadows, and city bloks are full of pitch black corners.
The next time your city african-americans out, walk around and see what fits where you lives best.

Wet blankets are good provided your out in the open and there's plenty of wind, the wind causes the water to evaporate and lower the temperature.
But do not use wet blankets in confined area as wet blanket are better conductor of heat and you'll be radiating heats signatures with in minutes.
IR cams are not a major concern tho since I dont think that many people have it.

Re: Camouflage enthusiasts
I love camouflage. I wear it fashionably, I don't kit up like a Rambo, head to toe in gear. It looks good. And mil spec stuff lasts forever and is practical. Padded pants can look slightly gay, but don't hurt when you fall down.

My ACU is so torn up and raggedy, ass and groin ripped. Velcro doesn't even close with all the crap that's gotten in there, overall needs cleaning. It's no wonder soldiers have to get a new uniform ever 6 months... I'm just waiting till the new ones are available at the online store.

Probably in autumn/fall when the trees start turning orange. Probably effective for two weeks.

Got a couple shirts like this.
One's olive green and the other is navy blue... Possibly something to look into to be a little more inconspicuous.

Re: Camouflage enthusiasts
Received my A-TACS FG BDU pants and I must say I am extremely pleased. I will be getting the top, perhaps my new all time favorite camouflage, at least in terms of effectiveness in woodland environments.

Here's a pic from WWII weekend, went in East German Cold War stuff just to display. Strichtarn pattern with camo netting.

There's a bit of story to that statement...
As far as I know that trick worked for them back in the days when the Russians were there, and it worked fairly well back then do to the fact that the Russians didn't have access to thermal imaging (heat sensitive) equipment. As the Mi-24's were the biggest problem for the Taliban before they were supplied with US made Stingers, the only option they had when a Russian gunship was inbound and way too close for comfort, was to drop down and cover themselves as they best could.
Luckily for them, their traditionally-old-as-shit clothing suited the role just fine, so the chopper pilots and gunners had to resort to their Eye Ball Mk I to find their targets, and thus didn't see anything but rocks...
Things have changed since then, being hidden in plain sight just won't cut it anymore, as we've all seen demonstrated in gun cam clips from AH-64's chewing up people...
Ok, I'll take the liberty to presume that you could potentially hide in the hottest hours on a mountain side or sand dune, and not get picked up because of your body heat, but I wouldn't bet on it...

Hmm, I have a couple o' IR sensitive surveillance cams set up around my house, and two more light weight/mountable NV rigs so there's at least one poster here, and I know another with more or less the same capabilities...
Being able to see through the dark, isn't as expensive as it was back in the days...

^^Looks like there's at least three of us then...
Granted, benny's statement still holds true as most people don't have IR surveillance set up, but we're not as few and far between...

^ personally I find DPM to be a more effective pattern than woodland. The colors are virtually the same, but the brush strokes break up the image better than the blobs.

It's a really dark OD Green, compare it to the kids shirt in the foreground of the second picture.

I really like the faded blotches, even at a short distance they'd work really well.
Provided of course, the colors match the surroundings...

I agree, That's probably why I bought full DPM fatigues
Just got used to the woodland with all the G.I. Joe action figures growing up.
Parents also easily found woodland camo for me as a kid rather than British camo.

I agree, it really is a breakthrough in camouflage technology, It is pretty close to the way my pet toads skin is, and I often have trouble finding her in a ten gallon aquarium.
NOW HEAR THIS: I am at SCFB's house this is not an alt.

I wanna get one and just troll the local campsites. Maybe get a wolf whistle thing for noises?

200$-250$ usually, they're speciality equipment, I'm sure you could make a more effective on for around 50$ depending on what your local surplus store has.

That is exactly correct, If anything that price estimate for a name brand one is low. All you gotta do to make one is get materials, camo netting, fake grass or moss, maybe a camo BDU to build it all on top of. Of course, you should know your way around a sewing machine.

I wanna get one and just troll the local campsites. Maybe get a wolf whistle thing for noises?

Much fun can be had with good camo.

They got them on sale for $99 at Bronson and Bronson in Kingston, Ontario.
There are a few books out there as well that'll teach you how to make them as well as videos on youtube.
Just a suggestion though start saving up old green cloths and buy a few rolls of burlap and be prepared to spend some time on what you're working on.
Also dependent on you, You may want to pad the arms and belly with a tough material because you'll be doing allot of crawling if you're going to me going prone to move around.
Remember to stick to the low sides of hills, watch your silhouette, and shoot from cover.

Re: Camouflage enthusiasts
Personally I wouldn't recommend buying a ghillie, for some odd reason they're all (well, by far most of them) of the string type, which means the base layer of the camouflage is of a uniform texture...
Maybe I'm just a god damn nitpicker that won't give cheap ghillie manufacturers a snowball's chance in Hell to sell you something I wouldn't be caught dead in, but I'd say you should built it yourself!
Ok, get a couple o' bundles of DIY ghillie, but mix it in with something else...
