This statement shows you don't understand how to utilize a rifle mounted light. I would suggest doing research before you attempt to make a point.

Ok, the best way to gain visual superiority over a target is with nightvision. You can see, they can't. If you are not going to buy night vision, which you will if you are serious about location defense, the best thing to do is wait in ambush until your target makes a sound or blocks a light source, like the always on red light on your tv, computer, router, etc, allowing you to fire at the discrepancy or flash your light on a probable target, while moving to a new source of cover or concealment so as not to allow them to return fire at your muzzle flash or the light you activated on your person or weapon.
Something i've thought of was a 'clapper' like system where you would be able to activate household lights remotely either through an attachment on your weapon or a separate remote, allowing easier target identification at your control, with no easy 'fire at the light source' solution for invaders.
The Clapper TV commercial - YouTube

instead of responding to sound, have it respond to a remote. Way better for home defense.

Just wondering what your stance on silhouette shouting is? I'm not taking about spray painted targets but getting your eyesight used to the dark and being able to use a rifle without any sort of external source of light besides what may naturally be available to you.

For me I've hunted most of my life that way so it's second nature to me.

Doesn't civilian night vision have a give away on it like a light source on top of it like a dull red light at a wave length that won't mess with the night vision to stop people using them for insurgency purposes? And don't they have counters to blocking it?

If not they should.

First Gen stuff and anything else that operates off of an external IR light source does.

Shit I did not know that... Is there anything out there on the market you'd suggest for us night owls that don't want to be spotted?

You don't keep the light on all the time, you flick it on when you notice their position to line up a better shot. Right?

I'm assuming. I don't know shit about "light doctrine" or whatever, but logically you don't want to be the idiot walking around with a flashlight permanently in the on position when your life is in danger and darkness is your best cover. If you just flick on the light to line up a shot, it's no different than a muzzle flash. If you were wrong and you don't end up lighting up your target you just move and try again, no?

I don't see why flashlights would be dangerous.

You definitely don't keep the light on, that is why you want a pressure switch on the light so it's only on when you need it on. Lights should be used to identify/confirm your target(s) too. Nobody wants a tragedy to occur because you think you have the "bad guy" in your sights in the dark and have it be a loved one (reminder to home defense gun owners).

I'm opposed in the instance of home defense as i don't need to have shot someone i care about. It's great in military applications.

Good thing I've only used it for hunting then.

I do intend to buy a third SKS and put a Tapco stock on it as well as a light with a pressure switch and some sort of sight good for close quarters situations.

And there's a few different mag adapters out there as well I want to try.

As for over penetration of the walls I'm not too worried about it in the location that I live in. Worse comes to worse I'd take a shot in the air then proceed to unload a mag into their engine once they got it running and took off.

Some Chinese mil surplus steel core rounds should do a number on the block and any internals in a car or truck making a one time only statement.

I've seen night vision and it still has a red light when switched on intentionally as a give away and not for any other reason, not because it is early stuff.

E: the nv in question was military property. I assume it was used for training purposes.

Dude, the topic included Barbie - how serious did you expect it to be? (IEspecially with tuer around)

I've got a combat sight on my carbine, have a flashlight mount on my Mossberg 590.

I actually think that the non detachable mag is an advantage, strippers are easy once you're used to them, and theres nothing like being able to pop 2 or 3 rounds in your rifle quickly in old school fashion. Detachable mags are great, until you run out... I'd rather pop a few rounds in an sks straight up mosin nagant style than fumble around with trying to load, and fit a polymer tapco mag when in a "stressful situation".

^I'm looking at ammo versatility as well as being able to quick load my rifle.

There's a few systems out there that use a cut down Tapco mag and it loads into the SKS like it would a Kalashnikov rifle that requires no modification of the receiver or the mag well.

Best come to best I just got an SKS that can use mags... Worse comes to worse you guys get a product review and a video of me shooting some Tapco mags willed with AP.
