Default Zbrush 3D modeling

I've been spending months searching for a 3D program to get in to and I never liked how constrained the traditional programs were. You had to work with one pixel at a time, which slowed the creation process to a tedious crawl. Then this little gem comes along and I'm amazed at how it combines a 2D interface with a 3D environment. I'm used to creating things with paint instead of forming them with wire mesh so I could really get into this program.

While 3Dsmax does have a good interface as far as animation, and simple poly modelling, zbrush kicks ASS at making some pretty complex detailed shit from those simple models, to use in animations. Plus it's wicked small in size. Any artist who google image searches "zbrush" will instantly fall in love.

Other programs simply can't touch zbrush. It's like 3D Photoshop or something.

I don't really want to get into animation because I want a Quad GPU sli setup so I can make stuff that doesn't look like shit.

This program completely disregards animation, which is fine with me because static pictures is my forte.

Only thing blender had going for it was being able to paint weights and use brush mode for modeling. 3DS Max 2012 implemented both of those things now.

I think I'll stick with max because it has the most documentation and I already had like 2 months of training in it. All the other programs are just a pain in the ass to learn especially if I can already do all that in max.

After fiddling with Zbrush I gave up on it because of the ridiculous amounts of bugs and terrible gui. It has issues with converting stuff into a polymesh and people have been resorting to exploits just to get the damn thing to do what it's supposed to do.

LOL.

For low poly modelling, I use Wings3D for the easy workflow and for detailed stuff, 3DSMax and Maya (I like Maya's animation better)

I used to use wings3d in like 2001. Since you are doing low poly modeling that seems about right though. Autodesk's shit is pretty good, if you have a couple grand to drop on software.

Products like Zbrush and Mudbox are really more for "sculpting" than modeling from the ground up. Perhaps I'm wrong, since I haven't done all that much digital sculpting.

They are more for adding detail to a high poly model after it's been prepped in Max. Mudbox has a basic posing tool but it's better to set up rigs in Max or Maya for much more control.
