Videogames always losing appeal in movies
Videogames always losing appeal when they become live action movies.
Videogames are using CGI for images, that's why the story becomes awesome. Anytime a movie is made from CGI to live action the story loses all it's charisma / appeal and becomes just a dull and annoying b movie.
The only way is to make CGI full lenght animated movies from videogames.
Heavy Rain for example would be great as a CGI animation, but not on film.

Re: Videogames always losing appeal in movies
Agreed for the most part (although I could see the right director making a decent live-action version of Uncharted, since that game was already trying to be a movie anyway). Seems like Final Fantasy had a chance to set the bar to inspire others to make CGI video game movies, but that movie sucked (nobody wants to follow a loser).
In general, though, I don't like the idea of movies inspired from video games to begin with. The way I figure it, if you're gonna spend all the time, effort, and money to make a movie whether it's live action or CGI, you might as well go with material that was written for the screen. Material and storylines that work great in a game usually don't translate well when expressed as a movie. That's probably why most video games made from movies suck as well.
When making a game into a movie, I think directors and screenwriters need to realize that they've cut out quite a challenge for themselves if they hope for it to be good at all, regardless whether they want to go live action or CGI.

The only good movie inspired by a video game was silent hill.

Re: Videogames always losing appeal in movies
They're shit because they rely too much on the games popularity as the selling point, and get lazy in other areas.

Re: Videogames always losing appeal in movies
They lose appeal because you're not controlling them. Video games are great because I can control (to a point) what happens, and how things get done.
Movies are much more limited. No matter how much you want them to shoot the red barrel with 2-3 bullets instead of trying to take on a squad, they always do it the slow, inefficient way.
