Bullshit. The only way you own software is if it's avaiable on a physical media that you own. The only software you can have on your HDD are free demos, in this case the interent download is very useful, you play it, then you erase it. And the same goes for the movies.

Movies stored on HDD are good only for rental, you watch them and erase them. Otherwise if the HDD gets corrupted you lose all the software stored on it. Nobody wants to spend money on software that you can have only stored on the HDD.

As the price for solid state memory continues to fall, I can't help but wonder why the next gen console wouldn't use flash cartridges or something similar. They can hold tons of data for the comparable size and they don't get fucked up as easy. I can see the degradation from the read cycles being a problem though.

And it's not my fault you have shitty internet, mine isn't even good any more, I need to get fibre but i'm cheap. Wild horses could not drag me back to having to use DVDs for playing games and then having to manually hunt down patches online.
I'm not saying that you have to have some Diablo 3 type bullshit with the always-on stuff, and i'm also not saying that flash technology isn't awesome. It still kind of amazes me that my first PC had a hard drive of 8 gigabytes, and now I have a 32GB Micro SDHC card that is like the size of my little thumbnail.
