Melancholy music.
What are some songs that embody any of the following: apathy, confusion, disdain, frustration, sadness, nostalgia, heartbreak, loss, failure, giving up, indifference.
I like this one:
And this one too:

I left my hometown and moved ~2 hours away to live with her. Not a week later she was incarcerated for her like 3rd DUI. I tried to stay and be supportive, but I didn't have a job, was in an unfamiliar town, no friends, family, she was all I had and I was lost.
I eventually got sick (physically and mentally) due to the whole thing, and just moved back home. I told her the door was open for her to move here, and she was willing, but then got cold feet due to her child (she didn't even have custody), so I told her that was a load of crock and just never talked to her again. I was able to look past all her faults for so long because I was infatuated, and perpetually drunk or stoned, or out of it. Nobody had ever shown interest in me, she had. Though, since here I've been in numerous more healthy relationships. It's just I'll always remember that one, since it was my first.

Re: Melancholy music.
Oh there are tons.
I'm too lazy to dig up links, but look into some DBSM (depressive black metal). There's a lot of good, melancholy doom/gothic metal too.
"Something in the Way" by Nirvana is certainly melancholy. Alice in Chains and some of Nine Inch Nails is quite depressing.

Is that a fact? Quite frankly, sir, I don't believe it is. I agree they do have many depressing tunes, but not all of them are. Arguably their most recognized song is a optimistic one (Float On).

Walked away to another plan
Gonna find another place, maybe one I can stand
I move on to another day
To a whole new town with a whole new way
Went to the porch to have a thought
Got to the door and again, I couldn't stop
You don't know where and you don't know when
But you still got your words and you got your friends
Walk along to another day
Work a little harder, work another way

Re: Melancholy music.
Every Simon & Garfunkel song is about depression or heartbreak.
