Help Me: How do I make my ancient Mac faster??

But yeah. My main computer is an 8 year old dual-CPU 64-bit G5 Power Mac. OS 10.5 installed, ram maxed out at 4GB, 256MB Fire GL graphics card, about a dozen USB 2.0 ports, awesome wireless, etc...

I've recently starting stripping all the crap off the 1TB 7,200rpm hard disk I can, what else can I do to fix performance? All I can think of is to put in a small SSD for a boot drive, put the 7,200rpm drive for storage, and USB a PCI eSATA card for a scratch disk for Final Cut Studio etc and then just add USB and Firewire 800 drives as needed for storage.

But yeah.

no i am trying to say you are hating on them for no reason I have both PCs and Macs, and my macs handle handle video editing a shit load better(plus I like final cut, over premier0. My PCs are better for gaming. Both still kicking as long as you know how to treat em.

As much as I dislike Macs and make fun of Mac users, they are generally very nice machines and OS X is an extremely stable operating system. It sounds like you still have a pretty decent setup there despite its age. If it can handle a SSD upgrade, which I'm not sure it can that will be the fastest most noticeable upgrade for general usability performance. I have a HTPC that I built for the lulz which is using Pentium 4 with hyper-threading and a little 32GB SSD as the boot drive, and even with that old CPU it boots up fast as shit and the OS (Windows 7) is very very quick to use, as are all the programs installed onto the SSD. It's just not good for modern gaming and CPU intensive stuff obviously.
