Default Hook (1991)

This is one of the best movies I've ever seen. I have no idea why. I never PARTICULARLY cared much for the whole Peter Pan story, but this movie was fucking amazing. I probably watched it 20 times as a kid, and I just watched it as an adult the other day and it gave me goosebumps, as it had been 15 years since I'd seen it or so. Really made me remenisque. Honk if you agree that this movie is amazing.

(Rufio is a fucking awesome character.)

That editing is fucking gay as hell though. He should have left the scenes as they were.

I think it's a great movie too. As a kid I always loved Peter Pan though. But I only knew the disney ones I never had anyone read the book to me. I read it as an adult and thought it was great too. I like the line "To die would be an awfully big adventure."

I think it's deep because today mediocrity is rewarded and praised, while we are denied tales of bravery and heroism. It wasn't always like this. With all the viking stories and all.

Then the story Hook even more, because this old fat man has become so pathetic and forgot what he used to be. Hook wants him to become this great foe that he once knew, and he does.

It is a great movie! I don't think I've ever managed to rewatch it in my adult life. I think I will, now that you mentioned it. I could really do for an intense wave of nostalgia.

Yeah, I remember this movie quite well, we had it on VHS when I was a kid and I watched it quite a lot. That was when you didn't have constant fresh entertainment availability like you do now and if you wanted to watch something you had to watch a movie for the 30th, 40th or even 50th time. Those were the days.

I was young when it first came out, at one stage it was all about this movie for me - Memory is fucked but I think was one of the few movies I went and saw as soon as it came out, then got the game on the original Nintendo.

Had a same experience as the O.P, went without watching it for a good 15 years or so then caught it on TV and loved it...drags on a bit though, long ass movie.

And like 37 now.. It wouldn't be the same without the exact same actor at close to the same age.

I didn't like Hook as a kid. The story of Peter Pan is interesting and cool, but the movie Hook never appealed to me for some reason.

Though despite my negative opinion of it, I do now have some repentance for it after reading this thread. Particularly ACE_187's comment and critique of it and Pan in general. I also don't recall the line "To die would be an awfully big adventure", but it's a great one and I can totally imagine Disney cutting it. But it's been so long since I've seen either Disney flicks that I really wouldn't recall anyway, sadly.

Give it a try when you're bored guys. The pirate bay is never too far away. If you haven't seen it, you've gotta at least try watching it. Get at least an hour in though.. it starts slow.

I never felt it slow. I thought that first hour was necessary, really gave you a strong look into Peter's life ...i dunno.

Weird coincidence, I just had my boy watch Peter Pan for the first time.
I think it was the old one, suppose I should have him watch Hook after we're done swimming?

I saw it in the theaters and watched it like 20 times on tv. Fucking awesome movie, mate. When I first saw it as a kid I got creeped out when they put that nigger in the wooden chest and put scorpions in there

They didn't cut it. It was in the book when I read it. But in the movie he said it to Hook after Hook said he was going to die.

Then in the movie, I think when he was remembering his mom and Julia Roberts said something like "no wonder you have such a hard time finding happy thoughts". It was kind of a kids movie but a good story for anyone and I think we could use a lot more movies with a similar story

To me the music in this movie really amplified the intended emotions, as well as in a lot of my favorites and to an even greater extent, video games. The music in video games is one of the most important parts. Some songs from Chrono Trigger, some Zelda's (Ganon, Ocarina of time, Forest temple), or FF7 and FF8 give me goosebumps. Chrono Trigger, every song is beautiful. The game wouldn't be close to as good with a shitty soundtrack. Same goes for a lot of movies. Never never-land in Hook has amazing audio to help build up the emotion that's meant to be felt towards the characters, the emotions the scenes are conveying, and the environment.
