got prescribed nicotine patches and gum

so i finally got off my lazy ass and made an appointment with my doctor & was able to get seen the next day. (yesterday)

i made the appointment for smoking cessation because i'm really serious & determined to stop this "once-was-pleasurable" habit and explained to the doc how much cigarettes i was going through a day and for how long and how i'm starting to get white patches and sores on my inner-cheek.

i got a box of generic 14 mg nicotine patches and 4 mg of generic nicotine gum with a couple refills, as well.

(all free, too! )

i haven't tried the patch yet, but have been using the gum since i got them and wow... i think i might finally be able to give up smoking cigarettes... as odd as it sounds, i find the nicotine buzz from the gum to be more fulfilling/potent then from smoking an actual cigarette, and the buzz lasts longer, and finally my lungs don't feel burnt out.

unfortunately, these are supposedly only temporary remedies and aren't advised to use for the rest of your life... but, hey, i'm sure it's better then smoking for the rest of your life... and if i truly succeed, i'll no longer need nicotine to feel, "balanced"... one day.

I lol'd. Seems like you're making a lot of progress! You are now taking nicotine (minus MAOIs n shit) through a different ROA! It's even more enjoyable. I knew a guy who quit smoking heroin, he now bangs it. I'm so proud of him.

I also don't know why what ever country you're in would require you to have a script.

Honestly though if you enjoy a healthier form of administrating nicotine good for you. Hopefully it will help you taper, but cold turkey would probably be easier.

i've been chain-smoking for the longest time now that it's mentally impossible for me to just stop cold turkey... i tried a few times and only lasted 2 days max... blurry vision, severe disorientation -- i know it's pathetic, but that's just the reality of a serious additive-added nicotine addiction... i pop xanax and valium daily and i still would feel that, "something's missing" feeling in my brain and i'd basically feel, "bored" all day.

my main reason for wanting to quit smoking is because of my lungs/mouth and last week suddenly small white patches and streak lines have been forming on my inner-cheek. ... i'm definitely setting myself up to be another god damn statistic and it's pissing me off.

so for the meanwhile, at least i'm not inhaling all the carbon monoxide and other rat-poison smoke that deliciously comes along with it... my lungs & throat desperately needs to retire being exposed to that stuff.

...marijuana smoke, on the other hand.

It's only impossible because you say it is, if you actually wanted to quit you would just deal with it instead of being a pussy using pills and such.

Cold turkey isn't very healthy though- just taper down your usage. Smoke a pack one day, then 19, then 18...... about a month later you'll be smoke free without withdrawl symptoms. Is that seriously too complicated for you to wrap your head around? You'd rather try to medicate your way around your problems?

Hey, nicotine in and of itself isn't all that bad for you, to my understanding. So without the additives, and the damaging RoA, you may as well knock yourself out. Good luck quitting.

There are almost no physical withdrawal symptoms, it's all in your head. Think about it, you sleep all night, right? You don't have to wake up and have a smoke then go back to sleep do you? No.

Why can you go 8 hours without a smoke during the night, yet you can't leave your house without having a smoke? Because the addiction is purely psychological.

Forgot to add, the only reason that so many smokers fail to quit permanently is that they feel like they're making a huge sacrifice by stopping.

If you looked at how it's ruining your health, how it's wasted your money etc. etc. and truly hated it, you'd experience no difficulty quitting and you'd never feel the urge to smoke ever again.

Yeah, a lot of people over here in the UK are switching to those electric vapour cigarettes. Personally i don't particularly like them, they don't have nice thick smoke and really don't hit the spot for me, but hey, they're working for millions of people and stopping them putting tar in their lungs.

I think i need to cut down soon, i roll my own and i currently smoke 35-40 unfiltered rollies a day and i'm only 21. I'm really short of breath all the time and i can hardly run at all.

But good for you if that method is working, you just need to slowly taper down so you'll experience zero nicotine withdrawal, then the problem is staying away from smokes, especially when you're drinking with buddies ect.

This is why I can never let myself get hooked on cigs. I couldn't handle having to quit and then not being able to smoke them when I drink. I dunno what it is about alcohol, but I love every last part of smoking a cig when I'm drunk, from the taste to the buzz.

these gum/patches truly help... nicotine truly has a hold on my ass like a little bitch and being able to absorb concentrated nicotine in my blood stream will keep me away from inhaling cigarette smoke.

Good luck and you could look into getting a script for Welbutrin. Originally used for depression - it was found to help curb the addiction to nicotine.

There is such thing as a nicotine overdose. One thing that will help you not die from an excessive amount of patches, etc., on your body would be dependent on how long you have been smoking, and how much you have smoked.
