Thumbs Down Need help einstalling windows 7 on a new hard drive

So I'll explain as best as possible...my old hd on my laptop took a shit and can not be read anymore. I purchased a new one and installed it. I have a recovery disk from when I first bought the computer but there is no recovery image. I basically need to reinstall a fresh copy of win 7. I can access the contents of the disk but when i run stop.exe it gets to the point where it checks for drivers and tells me it cant fine any. I have a flash drive with all my drivers on It but setup tells me they're incorrect. Any suggestions?

Sorry, I should have made it more clear, but Im typing this from my phone and me and touchscreens dont get along. But that is what i have on my flash drive is the drivers from lenovos website. I know my hard drive doesnt require a driver....I think the problem is that all the files I have are executable files and my computer will not recognize them w/o a hard drive. I need to find the actually .dll driver files.

Shouldn't you be using the recovery disk as a boot disk?

Also if you upgraded a Lenovo with a larger drive, sometimes a BIOS upgrade is required.

Just download a torrent of Windows 7
http://thepiratebay.se/torrent/73116..._dotnetfx4.ISO

Install the version of Windows your laptop came with (Probably Home Premium 64 bit) and then when it's installed type the product key in from the sticker on the bottom of your laptop to activate it.

Then go to the manufacturer's website to get all the drivers you need and there ya go, fresh legitimately activated Windows 7

I've tried that. My computer will not run .exe or .ISO files. It says the subsytem needed to run that file type is not found. I ran windows 7 off the recovery disk I have but It tells me I need drivers for my system....which I have a disk of but windows 7 will not read during installation....

and it's moments like these that I remind others why they should always have a Ubuntu Live CD with them 24/7 to avoid situations like these.

Recovery discs tend to fuck more shit up than its worth. Should always have a backup copy of Windows full installable from the CD man, even if you're not a pirate. Right now you're in a shitty position without much you can do. Sounds like your drive with the OS is fucked, the recovery disc is about as useful as two of those fucks, and no way to burn a OS CD whether it be Linux/Windows ISO.

That doesn't matter, you only need a way to burn an ISO image of Windows. Use a different computer to burn it. Then put the disk in the computer you want to format and boot off it, it's not that hard.

Unfortunately I don't have access to another dvd burner since I'm using a netbook. BUT there's an option to copy to a flash drive. I have an 8gb so I should be good. Thanks....5 minutes left on the download....I'll let you know how it turns out.

Yeah keep us updated, good news is that installing from a USB flash drive will go much faster than a DVD install.

You can use this tool to convert an ISO image to be bootable off a USB drive. An 8GB drive will be more than enough to use as well.

Thumbs Up Re: Need help einstalling windows 7 on a new hard drive

Thanks for the help everyone...my last attempt worked. I now have my computer's HD partitioned with W7 and Unbuntu. If anyone else has a problem with this, msg me and I'll be glad to explain what I did exactly.
