I have $100,000 that I want to invest

I was hit by a car a few years back and I got a settlement of 100k. It has just been sitting around in a pretty low interest GIC and now I want to actually invest it. I'm looking to invest this in for 10+ years. I've heard things such as gold an silver are good on the long run, other than that I'm pretty much clueless. Being 21 years old I do not have much experience with this sort of stuff, so I come to you, zoklet, to ask what I should invest in.

If I had 100k I'd start a large import/export company selling goods that can be imported from china. Problem being you would spend alot of time selling and shipping your products in person or over eBay, could even become a full time job and it's very possible to support yourself this way if you have enough inventory. Just do yourself a favour and don't import anything that is copyrighted (trade marked products) as this can bring big law suits against you

What about property development? Is it possible, even on a small scale? That is to say, hows your work ethic, where do you live/where to move, etc etc etc. If you can buy houses for cheap, and then fix them and flip them for a bit of profit, maybe even rent one out for a steady cash flow every month - you could make some money. I don't know what the market is like where you are though, but it's an idea.

Or just put all the cash into silver and pray that they don't invent an analog for it to use in electronics, but if they do, you're boned.

Or put a bunch of money in start-ups and pray that you get lucky (note: this will actually take a huge amount of effort to do correctly)

Or just buy big ol' boys that pay dividends. PG&E might be down still from that whole creating a firestorm and killing a couple dozen people and destroying godknows how much property.

Property development is probably your safest bet, but with 100k you ain't gonna get much, you're better going to auctions and buying run down pieces of shit or police property auctions.

And then theres always the flip side, high risk with the potential of high reward/high loss, stocks, commodities, currencys.

You should keep working your full time job, and try and start a business for around 5-10k. Use the money to attempt to start a bunch of small businesses, working for the man for life is no life at all.

Interesting. Last year I was incredibly close to buying a cheap house there and would attempt to rent it out. I don't live near there, which is the main reason I scrapped the idea. Still, the prices of some homes is quite attractive.

Blacks are fleeing Detroit, which only has about 800,000 remaining residents. Buying property in Detroit is a great idea, as much of it has already been burnt away, and the city will be a hub for America's booming Asian population. However, it is nothing to spend $100,000 on. If OP just wants to make money, he should become a short seller on one or all of of the securities exchanges in the world, taking advantage of the volatile economy wherein if something doesn't work one day you can just try something else the next day and it will. Every single day there is an opportunity to make hundreds of thousands of dollars, yet no one takes advantage of it. Why? I suppose that is just God's way of keeping everyone in line.

I made a thread like this on totse five years ago.

Everyone gave me advice from "sell drugz" to "huff raid" and a few things like "invest in X product."

At the end of it all I fliffed my cash on education, housing, food, drugs and family. Nothing amazing.

If you really want to do something utterly amazing with the money, I suggest you let the chips fall where they may . . . literally.

Go gamble as much of the money as possible (if not all of it) on some high-payoff high-stakes game. Something that will let you double or triple the initial "investment".

Or use the money to move to a beautiful place in Costa Rica. They'll let you be a citizen as long as you spend about $5K annually, and it takes very little to live comfortably there. It'd be a much better life than drab boring cul-de-sac urban Amerika.

OR invest the money in space travel. At least then you'll have brought humanity one pinch of salt closer to the likes of Cowboy Bebop or Outlaw Star. Hey, a boy can dream.

But don't just fliff the cash on school and family and drugs and food. Don't be "nothing amazing" like I am.
