Default When do you think COD will stop?

Lets count how many games there are now shall we? Only counting COD4 esque games as the WWII ones before that were at least somewhat distinct from eachother.

COD4
COD:WAW
MW2
Black ops
MW3
Black ops 2

We are on our sixth re-skinned Call of Duty game now. When will the madness end?

Them leaving "COD: #" was a smart, smart marketing move.

It'll stop when people stop buying the game and it's DLC, which i don't see happening anytime soon at all, most of the game's user base is 10-16 year old kids that are so annoying they need jailing for life and their parents need a public whipping.

There would pretty much have to be another game that comes out at/near the same time as a COD that sales suffer greatly.

Until they stop making money, they'll do as many as they can.

When people stop liking it. Clearly, people like the games if they're buying them. I don't like COD, but apparently, people do. I don't see why you want it to stop when so many people enjoy it.

I'm going to by Black Ops 2. Played my friends copy of MW3 and it was somehow worse than Black Ops.

I wish they'd make more changes. Honestly, isn't it about time for another WWII one?

When another big franchise comes along and does what CoD did to MoH.

I'd like to see FPSes set a bit further back... Napoleonic wars, Boer wars, American civil war etc. Plenty of arguments why it wouldn't work but it's gotta be be better than rehashing WW2 and modern day over and over. Future/sci fi settings there's a lot of potential for originality too but it's still been done a lot.

COD didn't do shit to MOH. MOH just turned to shit and people were burnt out on WW2. Modern Warfare just kicked COD's ass back in gear.

Also, older FPSes would be shit because the guns were bollocks and the warfare was necessarily gay, since you couldn't shoot shit unless you were standing 20 feet from it. There's a reason why warfare changed completely when automatic weapons came along; you no longer had to shoot 50 guns together so at least a few would hit statistically. Older warfare FPS games would be gay. They'd be like

> Line up in an orderly fashion
>Fire your volley
>Enemy fires their volley
>5 minute reloading break
>Repeat till dead or winner.

And just to be clear, I actually enjoyed COD4, my issue is that I've stopped enjoying the same formula they've been abusing for 5(?) years now.

The original COD did destroy MoH.

It was also one of the best fps I've ever played. It was actually very tactical, there was no health regen, you get shot twice = you're dead; yet the level design was good enough to ensure that it entirely possible to complete without quicksaves, just as long as you don't do anything dumb, maintain your cover etc.

I don't think there will be another CoD game.

Well the first three CoDs were WW2 so people couldn't have been that burnt out. The quality of CoD was just another level... there's a reason it got so big. CoD did basically replace MoH as the big FPS franchise.

And I'm on a phone and couldn't be assed typing all the reasons against historical FPSes, agree with all you said really but potentially it's more interesting to me than another WW2/modern shooter. Boer war say... guerilla tactics and repeater rifles.. could be a game there. Obviously less interesting to most people which is the main reason it'll never happen.

I don't see it stopping anytime in the near future. It will stop when people simply stop buying Call of Duty games. This started slowly after Modern Warfare 2 and will increase until the CoD fanbase is too small to keep making new games. To put it simply, when people don't like CoD anymore.

But the first 3 CODs weren't the ones that kicked MOH in the balls and into submission for a good 6 years before EA even dared to bring the name up again. It was COD4, which was explosively populae.

When they make a WW2 or more likely a modern day FPS setting they're bound to sell ridiculous amounts of games for less work and with no ingenuity... why change when stupid people buy the same game on a yearly basis? Rolf asks of Gith.

WWI would be interesting, but Rolf notes America really didn't save the world in that fight so it would not be so popular with the jingoistic audience that CoD seems to target.

A) "COD and MOH = realistic" =

B) If you're making a non-accurate war game, why pick a shitty, boring war like WW1? The tech in WW1 was somewhat equivalent to a monkey bashing a rock against a coconut. The entire game would be you choking your ass off from mustard gas and getting your leg caught in barbed wire, tripping over mudholes blasted open by artillery fire.

^A WW1 game could still be fun. Imagine the power a machine gun would have. Using chemical warefare. I mean, the time has potential.

Personally I'd rather see a medevil 'shooter' with bows/crossbows/melee, hell, even magic.

I'm just so sick of modern fps's now.

I fucking hate this thought police bullshit. Call Of Duty isn't inherently bad. The problem is that you might think that you're a hradcoer gaemar for hating COD, but the reason COD is hated is because A) it's popular and you're all hipster faggots and B) there is no B, you're just hipster faggots. Why is it such a taboo enjoy Call Of Duty? Why is the franchise INHERENTLY considered shit? Because of your gay elitist bullshit, that's why; if someone enjoys the game and pays for it (or doesn't, whatever), the shit is your problem?

The issue comes from them releasing the same game for 5 years straight. I dont hate on people who like it (I love zombies) but I would never buy the game for mtself. It was and is a good formula. But ultamitely, its the same game. And its this kind of greed (yearly sequals, cod elite, etc) and lack of creativity (or even a want for) that is killing the gaming industry.

Its not because its mainstream (I play fucking skyrim man) but because its repetetive and people want to see change. The great minds that made the formula need to make a new one. Perks, killstreaks, its all so old now.

Treyarch does do a good job at bringing some freshness into play tho. (Emblems, zombies, new time eras every game, etc) But its not enough to warrant 60$ a year.

Even if you don't love COD for the gameplay; here's a great thing about it.

There seems to be more annoying 12 year olds in this game than most others. Maybe it's because you usually play against 15 others at a time (in some modes), but I've met more annoying kids in it than even Halo.

So if you hate COD for game play; be happy it's distracting all the 12 year olds from the games you enjoy.

Because I want to see what else they can produce. It's cod, so whatever new formula they cook up will sell millions anyway.

Why not just keep playing the old one and save your money for good games?

I get the new one because i get tired of the same guns and maps. It's not like I expect it to be "different" from the last, its a twitch shooter. I don't want them to change anything too much or it will be shitty. I also liked the campaign for black ops, but even if i torrented BO2, staring at the multiplayer screen would crack me eventually.
